jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Oct 27, 2008 At Obrien’s way back. Solid IPA...surprised at the relatively low rating. I would never be disappointed sippin on this. hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Oct 26, 2008 Sampled at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival. Tried this towards the end of the Friday night session, amidst many other IPA’s in the Pacific section. Mild hop aroma with a dark amber color. Flavor leans more malty than bitter, but still some hops puckering on the palate. Tasty. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Oct 15, 2008 Pour is a copper with a white head. Aroma is your typicl hopped out the wazoo IIPA. Its a good thing i like this style. Flavor is all things grapfruit and pine hops but with a very intense malty after taste. I would describe it as an English IIPA. I think Pliny was better but this is still a great beer to sip on. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Oct 11, 2008 Tap at Blind Tiger. Hazy pale amber ber with a thin creamy white head. Aroma is lightly hoppy with a nice bright orange marmalade character. Lightly pithy bitterness on the back, but in general its quite nice. Soft palate with a light sticky resinousness toward the back. As it warms, it becomes more obviously fruity. Bitterness softens, with a lightly spicy herbal character to the hops. It’s a very lovely IIPA. can8ianben (903), Pasadena, California, USA Sep 22, 2008 Oh man, I thought the Racer 5 was their benchmark, but then I started sampling some of their other IPAs and Double IPAs. This brewing company knows how to work with hops. This one was syrupy sweet, and bitter. Very smooth and drinkable. We were confused by the menu discription - the apex is the top... what does that mean??? But when it arrived, it was all hops. So good. It struck me as sublty different than the Mach 10, a more timid version perhaps? Nik925 (300), California, USA Jun 10, 2008 Tap at their brew pub. A great D-IPA! I think highly of Racer 5, and for me, this is a high water mark for D-IPAs like Racer 5 is for IPAs. Great hop presence, bitter is kept in balance and a wonderful color. Bier brauen (210), Bremerton, Washington, USA Feb 1, 2008 On tap at Bear Republic. What a wonderful DIPA. Intense aromatic hops, good mouthfeel, beautiful lacing, rich orange-golden color. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 7, 2007 From a tap at Belmont Station--Poured a light copper-amber body with a one-finger white head. Fruity and flowery hops nose. Essence of grapefruit and orange. Mouth feel is chewy and thick. I appreciated the hops vs. malts presence of this imperial over the Racer X. Mild roastiness in the finish. Very nice!
