dmac (1418), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Apr 2, 2009 Multiple drafts at Capones. Man this sucker is 8.1% but goes down so smooth and easy no wonder why I was so banged up by the time I left Capones. Calm down everyone I had a driver....geez. Pours an orange/amber with a large fluffy white head. Pine and citrus hops in the aroma and flaovr of super fresh hops with some grassy notes as well. Man was this good stuff. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 31, 2009 Growler from Big Z Beverage. Pours a clear orange with a very small ring of white head. Aroma of sweet malt, hop oils, grassy hops, and grapefruit. Flavor of sweet citrusy malt and a slight bitter finish. Not too heavy (light for a IIPA actually) and well balanced with the hops to malt ratio. It really grew on me too. Nice one.

fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 31, 2009 Growler from Big Z. Aroma of unbelievably fresh and popping piney, perfumy, and citrus-oil hops, bready malt. Flavor again of bready malt with all sorts of crazy hop notes, fruitier in the mouth, almost like some sort of perfumy, fruity candy that i can’t put my finger on. Still unbelievably oily, sappy even, and. Big bitter finish. Gulpable, medium-body for a DIPA. When Bear Republic gets their hops right, they get them dead on. How is this a 45.6 in style? adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 30, 2009 On draft at Capones. Pours a semi clear light orange amber with a medium off white head. Aroma of strong piney notes and plenty of hops. Taste of piney resin, citrus and plenty of hops. Classic west coast ipa. Swolf3 (252), Elkton, Maryland, USA Mar 30, 2009 On tap @ Capones. Poured dark orange with white head. Aroma was a malt and hops. Taste was pine, citrus, floral hops. The balance between the malt an hops was nice and finished nice. Easy to drink and overall a nice brew. TeamTrappist (363), jericho, New York, USA Mar 30, 2009 Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Poured a medium cloudy amber. Very big hop nose. Flavor that followed was similar. Very intense sticky, piny, floral hop front. Finish was solidly bitter. Middle of the beer seemed a bit thin, and was a bit off the mark, but still worth a try. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Mar 29, 2009 Tap at Capones. Pours a nice somewhat clear orangey amber with a nice massive lasting whtie sticky head- good palce as well. Aroma is very fresh- tons of PNW hops- fresh this years batch of Columbus- piney gritty, sappy, and almost has a raw weed- very skunky in a good way with hints of mint to the hops. Flavor is also packed with citrus and piney hops with hints of mint and week, very raw, slight earth, ok caramel sweetness just for a backbone, but the mid palate and finish are just a shit ton of raw hoppy bitterness that has some serious power to it- very resinous. Awesome. ben4321 (953), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 29, 2009 Location: Draft sampling from Whole Foods (Bowery @ Houston St.)...picked up a growler too.
Aroma: Citrus fruits, slightly floral, maybe some pine
Appearance: Slightly hazy orange color, white head
Flavor: Nice citrus hoppiness, some malt backing as well, but the hops are the king here
Palate: Really nice drink to this one, medium-to-full body, nice mouthfeel
Overall Impression:
Of all the beers I tried at the Bear Republic tasting at Whole Foods, this was by far my favorite (hence the Growler purchase after the tasting). Really nice example of a style that I love. These guys make some really good beers, and this was one of the bests I’ve had from them.
