Pours gold into a shaker. White pancake head with excellent retention recedes leaving scan spiders. Deep pine and resin aromas. Soft with dark caramel and sticky resin front to back. Lasting earthy pine finish. Nice.

Bear Republic’s Apex is a nice example of double that is has a smooth palate, and almost dairy-like finish. This damn thing has a respectable hop / malt balance. This is what I would call a "soft" DIPA.

My Bottom Line:
Starkly floral, this quality West Coast Double IPA also shares lean honeyed cereals before making room for a grassy and citrusy hop finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the misty honey blond.
-The resinous hop bitterness is relatively soft (softer than the usual Double IPA’s anyway).
-Malts develop biscuity angles in the second half.
-Alcohol is deceptively well hidden. This drinks like a 7% IPA (why is it so strong (9%) then?)
-Citrusy fruitiness recalls passionfruit and candied ginger at times.

Bottle.

aroma is sweet malts and some piney notes with a touch of herbs. It’s a lovely blaze sunset orange. taste is a bit over malted for my taste but the taste follows the nose somewhat......over all? not bad.

Solid beer, on tap at Armsby Abbey.. As with most BR IPAs I feel they’re a bit thick in palate, but solidly west coast hops makes me quite happy.

Nicely balanced IPA! Hazy golden color. Lots of pine, grapefruit and guava on the nose. Resin comes out in the taste, a medium bitter.

Bomber. Hazy orange amber colored with a solid layer of off-white foam. Lots of ripe citrus, hops resin, cannabis and mint in the aroma. Taste is a blend of resiny hops, tropical fruit (pineapple, melon, mango) and ruby red grapefruit with a bit of pine and caramel malt toward the end. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation and more resiny bitterness and citrus in the finish. Yet another killer Bear Republic DIPA.

Clear yellow orange pour with a nice head that slowly fades to a cap. Soapy lacing. Strong aroma of sweet orange and grapefruit with pine in the background. Taste is citrus zest up front with pine and grapefruit in the finish. Begins sweet with a healthy bitterness in the finish that lingers. Medium body that dries. Really nice beer.

Bottle at home. Pours a nice rich dark orange with a big white head. Aroma is piney, citrusy, resiny, dank and delicious. Flavor is bitter citrus, grapefruit, a little syrupy. Really solid west coast ipa.
