Commercial Description:
Webster’s Dictionary defines apex as the highest point, the tip or climax. This experimental IPA allows our brewing staff to play and search for that ever elusive new hop blend and balance. Our brewers are eternally searching for the perfect Apex.

On tap at the brewery, I got this as part of a sampler set. The bartender commented that APEX is BR’s "Next Generation" IPA. Well, it’s nicely hoppy with some very good balance. Quite enjoyable.

GABF 2008. A fresh hopheads wet dream, with the powerful resin flavor, overt grassiness and citrus-earthy varieties showcased. Medium bodied, slightly warm and a little slick, the flavors start with caramel and toast in the background, and switch to grapefruit, orange, pine and slight tangerine.

Draft at the brewpub. Amber color with a miniscule white head. Moderate hoppy aroma. Taste is more than moderately hoppy. Strong pine. Very. NW hophead delite. The resin inflames the membranes. Not all that bitter - barring the hop burn. Really good ale.

On tap @ Rattle n Hum. Pale hazy golden orange with lasting head and lace. Sweet piney citrus hop aroma. Toasted honey melon orange citrus pine with medium bitterness and dry finish. Great balance. Medium creamy body. I thought this was excellent. I’m surprised at the low rating.

Draft at EVT. Very sturdy white head with a vanilla and citrus aroma. This barrel is a lot tastier then the barrel I had at The Gate. This stuff is really hoppy with a lingering, dry finish. Typical tangerine/grapfruit with nice orange.

Citrus on the nose, grapefruit and orange are predominant. Amber beer with a gigantic creamy head. Flavors of caramel malts, a touch of fruity sweetness and gritty citrus hops. The hops and malt combine to make a pretty fruity libation. The texture is gritty, chewy, and it is more sweet than hoppy.

On tap at Baileys taproom. Darker amber body with a tall off-white head. Big floral grapefruit nose. The hops pick up a candy sweet quality to them, not overly bitter, just floral and sticky sweet/resiny. Lots of body to this, caramel malt flavor up front, lots of grapefruit/cascade hop flavor in the finish.

Draft at the Concordia Ale House. Cloudy medium bright orangeish amber. Thick, creamy, tannish head. Nice fruity nose, almost sharp like a bold marmalade. Creamy medium body. Fruits (oranges and grapefruits) come back for the mid-palate. Nice resiny bite at the finish. Clean and tidy and delicious. No doubt I could drink the bejeebus out of this one. Looks like it has been reborn at some point, new recipe or something, getting more love recently. Don’t fear the Apex.
