On tap at the Blind Tiger’s VSK3 event. Pours a hazy golden orange with a thick yellowed white head. Crisp citrus, a little bit of pineapple. Amazing given that this was the 08. It’s definitely held up well. Sweet caramel, just a bit oxidized. Long grapefruit bitterness.

Bouteille 66cl @ RBBSG III, courtesy of Benzai.

On tap at Bistro DIPA Fest. This amber ale poured with a decent off-white head and a malty aroma. There is a mellow caramel malt base enhanced by significant hop bitterness.

Draft served in a tulip at International Tap House-Soulard. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of herbal, oily hops, citrus peel, and sweet caramel malts. Flavor of herbal, oily hops and not much else- some tea, sweet caramel malts, and lemon citrus maybe. Medium-bodied, with an oily, smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Wow, this is bitter and hoppy and good. Seems to have more kick than 7.5% too.

Draught:   Copper hued amber, lively carbonation, moderate white head, frothy, nice lacing.   Bright citrusy aroma, some hops as well.   Not much on the aroma says IIPA to me, in terms of malts or sweetness.   Strong citrusy hops up front, minor sweetness, balanced with a bit more bitterness.   This one seems like a nice robust IPA, but lacks depth and body.   Needs more umph in my book.   As is, a very nice 1½ IPA.   Strong citrusy and resiny finish.

Draft at the Concordia Ale House. Cloudy medium bright orangeish amber. Thick, creamy, tannish head. Nice fruity nose, almost sharp like a bold marmalade. Creamy medium body. Fruits (oranges and grapefruits) come back for the mid-palate. Nice resiny bite at the finish. Clean and tidy and delicious. No doubt I could drink the bejeebus out of this one. Looks like it has been reborn at some point, new recipe or something, getting more love recently. Don’t fear the Apex.

Growler from Consumers Beverages (Transit Road). Slightly hazy slightly amberish gold pour, average lasting off-white creamy-foamy head. Interesting aroma - quite a lot of oily cereal grain - sort of halfway between canola and rye - with a strong overlay of grapefruit hops - I think there’s a fair bit of alcohol in there, but I can’t make it out over the dominant grain/bitterness. Wow, I really dig the taste of this - it delivers exactly what the aroma promised, but the citrus hops slide right to the front, and the alcohol asserts itself more - it’s not huge, but it is quite hop-forward, and the grain/malt backbone is there for minimal structure. Chewy, dry, slightly boozy mouthfeel, lightly carbonated, with a long, dry, citrus zest/pith finish ... I look forward to drinking this bastard dry! *** later note - this beer has, oddly, a little of that house character of the Duggan’s beers here in Toronto - the cereal grain seems a bit toasty and sulfur-like - nothing unpleasant, perhaps it’s the water?

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, picked up at Supermarket Liquor. Clear orange pour with white, lacing head. Aroma brings big dank notes with pine, weed, grass into some nice grapefruit juice, orange, some hints of biscuity, bread notes. Taste is a mix of herbal, grassy, dank notes into some orange, grapefruit, earthy notes, nice biscuit, caramel, finishing with more grapefruit, slightly sweet almost but fairly bitter as well. Nicely done, nothing amazing but great level of flavor and balance.

GABF 2005: Clean golden hue with good lace. The nose detected some citric fruit, piney, dusty yeast, and butterscotch esters. The taste was pineapple and fresh hops with a bready background and metallic finish. The feel is firm, crisp, and dry. While it was enjoyable and refreshing enough, I still felt it was missed that spark. Surprised to find out it is a IIIPA and 8% ABV, I didn’t detect that.

On tap at Apex in Portland, split with Matts_Property, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of floral, soapy and citrusy hops, with some light fruit. Flavour is very floral and citrus heavy, kind of soapy, with barely enough caramel malt to balance. Finishes floral and soapy. Very well-made.
