I either absolutely love or feel very ’ehh’ about Bear’s IPAs. To me this tastes like a bigger version of Racer 5... good but not great. Very mild floral aroma leads into confusion as the hop flavors are almost overly citrus with tons of lemon and orange marmalade mixed with just a little spicey pine. Also, for the ABV I would like to see this be more bitter. If you prefer Cafe Racer 15 this may be a skip. If however you love Racer 5 this might be a gem.

Pours a bright, light golden color with a thick head of foam. The sticky, white bubbles last for some time. The aroma is floral, fruity hops on top of a pleasantly sweet malt backdrop. Pine sap, apricot, orange, from the hops. The malt adds honey and caramel to the mix. The taste starts off with pale malt sweetness before those floral-citrus hop flavors take over. The finish is lightly sweet with some light hop bitterness. It’s definitely hop flavor over bitterness, but there is a grassy bitter note in the finish to clean things up. Feel is relatively light with a lot of hop oiliness, smooth and slightly sticky.

Pours amber cloudy with thick head from bomber. Smell is malty with slight citrus. Well balanced not overly bitter and doesn’t taste boozy like a lot of doubles.

Poured from a 22oz bomber bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Orange in color, slightly opaque. Decent head with good lacing. Aroma is a balance between citrus and sweetness. As for the taste I have two words... Phe - nomenal. The feel on the palate is medium and much lighter than expected for an 8.25 ABV double IPA.

Large Format - Real cloudy orange yet I don’t believe it is an unfiltered beer. Large thick head that sticks around. Slight citrus flavor on the back of the palate, dry bitterness on the front of the palate.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2015 651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, tiny bubbled, ivory head, with heavy lacing, over a slightly hazy, tiny particle laden, amber (SRM 10) body......nose is light pine, resin, licorice, fruits from the hops, cereal from the malts, balance to the hops.....taste is sweet with licorice, pine, resin, pineapple, leading to a pine, resin bitter finish, balanced back by the floral sweetness.....mouth feel, heavy of medium body, sticky, alcohol present, carbonation high adding an occasional creamy note. This is delicious, well done beer, with great hop complexity. Now, it is time, to critique. It is definitely sweet, and the sweetness is toward the floral honey, simple sugar end of the spectrum. It lacks the toffee/caramel notes from other points of the malts. The hops were deftly handled. This would not be a good beer to have in a Utah desert on a summer day, as it is too rich, but on a cold night, a different result. A change in the malts, with the goal of greater attenuation, to decrease sweetness, perhaps more caramel/crystal would work towards an even better beer. BJCP 9/2/16/4/8

22 oz bottle. Misty amber orange with whitish foam. Nose is pineapple, orange, spruce and toffee. Medium to full body with a tingle getting resiny. Taste is pink grapefruit, pine, soft melon and marmalade with a peppery finish. Great hop melange without going over the top.

Aroma of pine resin, citrus and hops, pours a cloudy caramel colour with a lasting white well laced head. Taste of hops and pine resin with a dry medium body feel with a mildly bitter finish.
