This dark ale has a clean acidity balanced by rich malts and a distinct French oak character. Matured and refermented with wild bacteria and yeast in a wine barrel for over two years.

Sampled at the Bistro 7th Annual Barrel Aged Festival on 11/10/2012. This sour/wild ale pours a dark brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is tart, sour and funky with some fruitiness. A medium bodied wild/sour ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, tart and funky. The hops are earthy. Decent carbonation. Tart and funky. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is tart.

Pour on tap at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting 2012, dark reddish brown pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark fruits, caramel, roast, hints of toffee, slight sour berry notes, slight funky notes as well, pretty nice. Taste is a mix of dark fruits, caramel, toffee, spice, some nice funk and oak notes, hints of sour cherry and berry notes, finishing fairly tart, slightly funky, dry. Pretty tasty.

Experienced at the Tap Room. A psychedelic beer experience. Brett? big wine barrel, tart tart, cherry. Lots of malt to take down the acidity. The tannic wine dominates. Very dark brown to black, some head and lace. This is tannic, lactic, some astringency. A sipper at best in drinkability. A lot of ideas here. Medium bodied. A hint of chocolate malt and vanilla. Brewers’ notes: proprietary Scottish Ale Yeast, along with Somoma County wild bacteria. Nugget and Liberty hops; IBU below 25. A blend of several dark ales.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting IV on 10/12/2012. Dark amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of sour fruit and malt. Light to medium body with a fairly sour character and notes of yeast and oak. The finish is fruity and a leaves a vinous aftertaste. Above average overall.

Had at the 2012 Denver Rare Beer Tasting in Denver, Colorado. Nice woody sour funk, taste is similar but has a nice balance between the two.
