Deep amber brown pour. The nose has a little bit of soft licorice and anise character. Chewy tartness and a little bit of light fruit. Softly astringent and chewy. A distinct earthiness that reminds me their other sour stuff. Lactic with a little bit of light wild bretty character. Nicely chewy - the tartness works pretty well with the dark malts here.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2010 Tap at Rattle n Hum. Poured a rich brown. Nose is sour and yeasty. Very dry beer with some solid sour notes. Dark fruits but again very dry. The cognac is there but on the subtle side. Tasty and drinkable.

On tap at Bear Republic. Murky dark brown pour. Aroma is cognac with hints of sweet fruit. Very smooth mouthfeel with the flavor pretty dominated by the cognac. The aftertaste reveals a light oak flavor with some dark fruit and brown sugar. Although i was a little on the thin side, it was definitely a very enjoyable brew.

~Pours a dark brownish red color with small white head. ~Strong scent of bourbon/whisky. Not much else. ~Whisky flavor. Similar to drinking a shot of Jack Daniels, but lighter. ~Medium feel bitter finish. ~Luckily I’m a fan of whisky/bourbon/cognac. That’s really all I could detect in this beer. I don’t think it was a good idea aging a lighter beer in a bourbon barrel. Whisky over powers the beer.

On tap @ Brewery. Nice smooth beer. Kind of reminds me of a hybrid between a Belgian ale and a Porter. The cognac adds an interesting flavor, although the barrel aging is fairly faint. Easy drinking and dangerous beer.
