Appearance- dark black coffee body. Opaque. One finger of creamy, tan colored head. It leaves trails on the glass, and recedes to a film. Aroma- roasted chocolate malts with notes of licorice, caramel and molasses. Mouthfeel- light carbonation, smooth and chewy. Taste- bitter chocolate and coffee upfront, notes of caramel, molasses and alcohol warming in the finish. The 8.1% sneaks up on you. Very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, into a snifter. Appearance is jet black. A one finger light brown head initially, which dissipates into a foamy covering. Aroma- chocolate, milky, lots of caramel here, roasted malt, cocoa powder, vague hint of liquorice. Taste- lots of coffee bitterness, large amount of roasted malt, a bit biscuity, bitter chcolate, coffee which then turns to espresso, mouthfeel is a bit oily but less thick than expected. Very tasty stout, nice.

Cask at Toad in the Hole. Deepest brown with khaki receding head and distinct lace. Fresh green herbiage and cola are the primary aroma notes. Big stonefruit and sharp rooty spices coast over a substrate of sweet and bitter. Body is medium and alcohol never hot despite big ABV and low carbonation. I wouldn’t mind a bit more chub.

Cellared bomber, shared and poured to snifters, displaying a black/brown hue, with a little ruby highlighting at the stem, frothy, brownish tan head foam, and waves & spots of lacing. The nose was quite roasted, with notes of wood & molasses. Ditto on the flavor, adding mocha notes, and resinous, piney hop bitterness, with roasted dryness, but a stubborn hint of sweetness that lingered on the tongue. Aged well, finishing dry & pleasantly astringent, and still a very impressive Imperial Stout that I hear might not be distributed this way in the future?
