A great stout. 22oz bottle from Bev Mo. I like to drink this beer before I go snowboarding.....keeps me nice and warm. Pours a deep brown, almost black color, with a light tan head. Aroma’s of caramel, chocolate and roasted toffee. Flavor is mostly chocolaty with some hop undertones.

650ml bottle. Thick and hearty looking in the glass, big and black with an even layer light coffee colored foam. Looks great and smells greater with lots of roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate and a faint hint of caramel. Smooth and velvet like in the mouth with a slight alcohol afterburn. Thus is one seriously good stout.

22 ounce bottle poured a black color with aromas of roast, light ash, light dark fruits, and some chocolate. Flavor is the same as aromas, decent beer overall, would drink again.

Pours black with a tanned high head. Aroma is roasted, dark chocolate and some sweetness. Flavor is a bit bitter, but sweet at the same time. Dark malts, burned sugar, coffee and mudcake.... Dry finish. A bit oily palate.

Decent stout, drinkable for the abv. Nice complex malt flavors unravel as you go.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Maris (544) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAY 1, 2012
From a 1 pt 6 fl oz (mls?) bottle on 1/5/2012. Pours black with a fine medium to small tan head. Has a lovely aroma featuring milk chocolate, vanilla, coffee and traces of bread and spice. This is a wonderfully smooth stout, with heaps of sweet milk chocolate up front, lots of brown sugar, and a firm, hoppy, roasty bitterness. This is a rich, creamy and subtle, yet complex, brew which is dangerously drinkable at 8.1%. Great stuff.

Originally reviewed: 7/13/10. 22oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a deep dark black. Viscous and thick. A large mocha-colored head grows on top. Superb retention. Left some nice lace in its wake. The first scent I get on cracking the bottle is fresh hops. Wasn’t expecting that. Upon further exploration, I get lots of dark roasted malts, espresso, and a bit of burnt crust.
The mouth is wonderfully smooth and delicate. Great for the style. The flavors are mixed well and complement the scent. I get a little more char and burnt flavoring than expected. Some mild sweetness noted, but the bittering roasted quality is the main aspect. Pretty good beer. Not as great as expected, but I’d have more for sure.

Very dark brown body with lasting tan head. Coffee and sugar on the nose. Smooth taste which is filling but still drinkable, some more coffee, chocolate and a hint of dark fruits.

Pours deep brown/black with a medium mocha head. Aroma has light roastiness and dark fruit...mild tobacco and milky notes...a bit faint as imps go. Flavor has roastiness, light tobacco, dark chocolate, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is roasty and lingering with a hint of burnt dark fruits. Not a bad beer but not in line with the better impys.
