highibus (209), Vail, Arizona, USA Jun 28, 2008 Pours a deep black with a super fluffy tan head. I guess lacing will happen in the next half hour or so when it drops finally. Flavor is super roasted malt and some biscuit. Medium to full body with a nice lingering roasted malt finish. davidCC (119), New York, USA Jun 28, 2008 Pours dark brown/black with tan head. A very nice dark stout with hints of chocolate and coffee. Very smooth as you would expect and pleasantly bitter. sja14 (32), Ohio, USA Jun 26, 2008 Pours black with dissipating light brown head. Aroma is malty and sweet. Flavor is dry with malty coffee hints. Not really any alcohol flavor which is good for a 8.1% dry imperial stout. dyetube (366), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 23, 2008 This beer pours black with a large tan head. The initial aroma is weak coffee and no chocolate. As the beer warms up the coffee and chocolate become more prominent and there is also a slight astringent alcohol aroma. The flavors are the same weak coffee and chocolate but when it warms up the flavors become much better and meld together quite well. Not a bad representation of the style. Cheers! probstk (622), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Jun 23, 2008 1PT. 6FL.OZ bottle from dkachur (thanks!), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown-black with ruby hues under intense light, remnants of a mocha head (reminds me of the crema on espresso).
Aroma: Tangy black coffee, dark chocolate, inviting vanilla, light toffee, some green, resinous and grapefruity hops, light tangy fruitiness.
Palate: Medium+ body, virtually no carbonation, smooth.
Flav.: Lots of resinous hops with some grapefruit, mashed in with black coffee, a bit of dark chocolate, a bit of wood; off-dry and quite bitter, with a bit of alcohol and some burnt sugar, floral and nutty notes to finish.
Not exactly subtle, especially with the hopping. Unbalanced, but I like the big bitterness, so that’s OK by me.
