COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first of our small batches brewed on the old Wild Horse brewing system, this black beer is a twist on the classic Belgian Wit. It is brewed with three kinds of wheat and black and crystal malts. Roast and clove notes are its major flavors; it finishes dry.

A dark clear brown ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, a strange aroma of burned wood extract, licorice and chinotto. In mouth, a nice nutty and chalky wit, with nice caramel malt, and some fennel seeds. Interesting. On tap at brewpub, August 16 2009.

Tap at Bier Stein. Pours out cola brown with a thin white head. Aroma of wheat, orange, coriander and caramel. Flavor is yeast, wheat, coriander, caramel, dark malt. Mouthfeel is very light. Interesting effort, but in the end it was merely an average beer at best.

Blech. Dark lagers are wicked gross. It was warm due to the heat but just weird. Not quite malty not quite pale.

7/09/2008: Despite its dark color, Bear Republic Black Mamba (Dark Wit) smells like a witbier. The orange and corriander and definitely noticeable in the aroma as well as the flavor. In addition to the spicy and estery qualities, there is some roasted malt and mild earthiness in the flavor as well. It has a bitter finish, medium-light body, and a beige-colored head that is fully and provides decent lacing. This is definitely and different, but successful variation on the usual Wit!

Draught (6.0% ABV; 90 IBU) at The Brew Kettle in Strongsville, Ohio. Rating #39 for this beer.

Poured a black color with a very small off white head. Aroma was really bland, couldnt quite pick out anything besides some nots of spices and yeast. Flavor was a bit roasted, with some of the general notes of wheat beers you would expect. Just a strange bland beer.

Pretty quaffable but otherwise un-notable with a bit of a watered down wheat taste along with licorice and chocolate tones. On tap at Elmer Sudds, Wilkes Barre.
