DA (2484), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jun 9, 2008 On tap at the PDX Green Dragon. 2 roasty Belgian beers in one day, an oddity. Once again, I enjoyed this beer, but something about roasty beers with Belgian style yeast doesn’t create synergy with me. The wit side of it gave off a soft citrus and coriander character, but the roasted chocolate character seemed to just backhand the softer flavors and take over. It was a pretty decent drinker altogether, but didn’t build off the two styles into a better one.

Pours very dark brown in color. Cola like without any head at all. Smell is heavy black malts and a bit of roast. The malts really shine in the flavor as well. Plenty of black patent malt and a bit of a roasty porter finish. This was a pretty decent beer, and it’s highly drinkable. FROTHINGSLOSH (1513), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2008 Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub this beer poured a medium black color with a small dark tan head. The aroma was vague sour and tangy malts. The flavor was tangy, sour, lightly hoppy and just rather off. It really tasted like this beer was trying to be several things and failing horribly at doing anything. JohnQPublic (202), Brooklyn, New York, USA Oct 9, 2008 Draught @ Blind Tiger, into tulip. Pours hazy, dark brown w/ red highlights showing through, rocky tan head that lasts awhile and lots of lacing. Nose is spicy yeast, clove, with hints of citrus zest, and just a hint of roasty malt and even cocoa. Taste really is an odd combo of roasty and wit flavors - the yeasty characteristics of the wit leave the roasty tasting oddly off, with a dry, yeasty finish. Light body and moderate carbonation. An interesting experiment, but definitely not my favorite BR beer. bu11zeye (3780), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 7, 2008 (Draught) Pours an opaque dark brown (near black) body with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coriander, licorice, clove, caramel, and cocoa. Flavor of roasted malt, sweet caramel, light licorice, chocolate, and lactic. mansquito (652), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Oct 1, 2008 On tap: creamy off-white head and not much of it. Black body for all intents and purposes. heavy sweet and espresso aromas. Espresso taste and a bunch of sweetness in the taste as well. Some alcohol undertones. Mineral like taste at points. Unique taste for a stout.
