4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Y-not Pizza, Chesapeake, VA. Dark brown pour with a short off-white head. Aroma of tangerine and pine. Flavor is a nice blend of espresso, piney hops, and citrus. Beautiful lacing that coats the glass. An outstanding black IPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle: Pours a mostly opaque black with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a lightly sweet dark malty nose with lots of fresh resiny hops. Starts with pretty good fullness and clean dark malty sweetness with good piny hop bitterness and flavor before a drier bittersweet finish. True to style and enjoyable.

Pours black with a beige head. Excellent lacing with an aroma of chocolate, pine, roasted malt, and citrus. Roasted malt flavor with chocolate, pine, and some hop bite. Creamy body. Well done.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark but still relatively clear. Nice beige head with large bubbles that lasts a while. Nice aroma of citrusy hops. Hoppy with a hint of sweetness. Not quite as crisp as Racer 5 but probably more flavor. Dark and flavorful all around. Good beer.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours with a beautiful deep tan head. Toasty and slightly nutty aroma. Great mouth feel not as heavy as I was afraid of. Really well balanced.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Happy to try this, seems like it has been ages since I tried something new (for me at least) from Bear Republic. That is probably because it has been ages since I tried something new from Bear Republic. Pours a very, very dark brown, fantastic compact creamy head that lasts forever and sets down a great lace. Aroma is piney and grapefruit hops, with a light caramel note. Flavor is lightly (very lightly) of chocolate and caramel accented malts, with a hop finish that matches the nose. There is a very, very faint rubber note on the finish that detracts. Not sure if it is some sort of side effect of the dark malts, or perhaps a subtle leftover from fermentation. But it is the sole detractor from an otherwise fantastic beer. Even with that note, I liked this beer. Should note that it didn’t turn up until it had warmed considerably.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep, dark pour. Aroma is quite roasty, with some nice citrus going on as well. Flavor is about the same. Admittedly, I am not a huge fan of the style, but this is a pretty good example of it. Good brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep black in color... Aroma is burnt malts, citrus hops... Flavor is fairly malty and roasty, more than most for the style... Citrus hop backbone, but palate is definitely all burnt malt... Solid

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Fairly light nose of pine and floral hops and dark malt. Dark brown. Incredibly smooth and goes down very easy. Dark malt and clean hop finish to balance it out. Very nice, if otherwise unnoteworthy black IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bomber split with TheRon. Pours black with a bit of red coming through in the light, with a tan, sticky head. Just looks appealing. Aroma of big linalool, with more citrus fruits coming through, plus a bit of roast, but mostly showcasing citrus hops. Flavor has some earthy roast, but is still incredibly citrus hop forward. Finishes with a dry, alcohol bite to it.
