Pours mahogany tinged deep brown into a Sam glass. Mocha head with good retention turns soapy as it recedes leaving spider lacing. Chocolate and resin aromas. Thin with dark chocolate and toasted nuts upfront turning to bitter resin and espresso in the lasting finish.

On tap at the Public House in San Francisco , poured into a goblet style glass. Pour is dark (obviously) with a nice thick brown head that sticks around for a bit. Smells just like Racer 5! Aroma is nice and hoppy, with piny resins, some spicy hops and a every so slightly touch of roast at the end to set this beer apart from its brother. Nice thick mouthfeel, but the flavor is rather unexciting, Big roast, musty berry, cardboard, slight bitter chocolate, and a chalky dry finish. Itís kinda weird to taste that chocolate and resiny hops together. Itís a cool style... but itís definitely no Wookey Jack

On tap. Black pour with thin tan head. Aroma has some light roast and pine bitterness but is on the whole understated. Taste has light roast and perhaps some chocolate with hop bitterness and even some malt sweetness into the finish. Okay but I was expecting a better beer.

Dark black, clear with a thin tan head. Awesome hops and malt flavor. Great chocolate and deep rich hops flavor. Awesome BEER

Out of the bottle. Pours a dark, dark brown. Aroma similar to Racer 5. Taste is dark roasted, bread crust, some burnt. Bitter finish with plenty of the roast and bread crust left. Mouthfeel thinner than I expected.

Draft at Monks. Very dark brown with a slight frothy tan head. Thicker body than I expected. Feels more like a chocolate stout. Hop bite balances the sweetness. Good, but does not read as a Black IPA. Balanced but not that complex.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. Big pine and grapefruit aromas. Roasted malt, chocolate, and sweet caramel and molasses. Pretty simplistic aroma. The flavor is moderately bitter. Lots of roast, pine, and grapefruit notes. Some hints of chocolate, molasses, caramel, and a touch of coffee.

I donít know why, but I had this on tap at Lord Hobo. It was during the same time as my Boulevard Hibiscus Gose review. Pours a dark brown resembling black: trim khaki head. Smells and tastes of roast, blackberry preserves, juniper berries, grass trimmings, traditional yeast, and ginger. Smooth. alcohol well hidden. Another exciting beer from Bear Republic.

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a nearly pitch black color with auburn highlights at the edges that indicate some clarity in the beer. Large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of vegetal, herbal hops with roasted malts and a bit of a nutty note. The taste is herbal, citrus, resin hops with roasted malts and a faint sweetness. Medium bodied.

a black ipa that is more on the ipa side. Pretty solid dark black color. Aroma is slightly astringent zest but also some light chocolate and cigar wrapper. Maybe even a light wild berry tea quality to the smell. The taste is pretty steady bitter with jut a hinted chocolate note. A good style example.
