Draft @ OBF ’12. Solid BIPA with lighter roasted and chocolate flavors then many of the same style...which I like.

2012 OBF. A decent enough brew but not up to Bear Republic standards in my opinion. Citrus and bitterness throughout but missing the roasted malts and chocolate. Finish is a bit weak.

Tap at OBF. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aroma seems resin hoppy. Med + body. Flavor is resin/citrus over very dark malt. It’s definitely bitter and hoppy. Quite tasty.

Dark brown color. Lots of spicy hops and roasted malts in the nose. Hoppy mouth with considerable amounts of roastiness. Well balanced. Fun, but serious at the same time. Like so much from BR the beer can be just mediocre or good, but the balance is so well executed that it just makes the ordinary extraordinary.

Excellent BIPA. Lovely tropical fruit nose. Good body. Nice balance - much like Racer 5. Chocolate, a little roast and some big citrus flavours. A little bit too astringent for me in the aftertaste, but otherwise top notch.

Cask. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Citric hoppy aroma with light floral notes and sweet malts. The flavor has citric and flowery hops, light malty sweetness, and some lightly roasted malts. Very easy to drink and very well balanced.

Average IPA with some porter flavors. Bear could have done much better. This is a weak entry into the BIPA category for them, esp. since they have such awesome IPAs.

Sampled at the Raleigh Rare and Vintage Festival. Good looking Dark brown pour with decent tan head. The nose was a very crisp hoppiness, with an almost ’burnt’ quality. Flavor was bitter and extremely roasty, overroasted in my opinion. Lingering bitterness on the tail. Pretty good, but I’ve had better.
