3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dusty bottle from Greenwood. Hopefully this hasn’t been sitting around for aeons. The pour’s deep chestnut brown with a medium tan head. The aroma’s burnt brown sugar, burnt coffee rinds. Some peach and grapefruit. Brash citrus. Cantaloupe. The taste is charred grain, coffee beans, dark chocolate. Bright orange peel. Loads of citrusy hops on the bitter finish. Chocolate orange ice cream. Medium body, smooth carbonation. Very tasty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Rustico Alexandria - staff let me have a sample pour of it from an open bottle, pretty nice of them. Poured a nice dark brown, almost black color with a small tan head. Aroma was notes of citrus, floral hops and a touch of nice roast. Flavor was a lot more roasty than I thought based on the aroma, but still pretty well balanced. Nice bitter notes, pretty tasty.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours mahogany tinged deep brown into a Sam glass. Mocha head with good retention turns soapy as it recedes leaving spider lacing. Chocolate and resin aromas. Thin with dark chocolate and toasted nuts upfront turning to bitter resin and espresso in the lasting finish.

Draft at Stone Bistro. Pour is a dark brown, almost black, with light tan head. Grapefruit and pine. The flavor is hoppy, sweet milk chocolate, and sharp bitterness. Slight roast, but the roast is not central to this beer. Pretty good black IPA.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin light tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, butterscotch. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a rich hop bitter, molasses, sweet fruit palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not a great deal of life and lacks the defining black IPA hop character, but a good beer all the same.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A tannic red/india pale ale aroma. Decent label, 22oz bomber; clear, ruby black-brown with an impressive, dense tan head. A buffered, chalky roast and hops aroma. LIghtly sweet, tangy, moderately roasted, properly hoppy, powdered cocoa flavors. A muddled mouthfeel - frothy, pasty, undercarbonated but mouthy. Acidic finish. Respectable, but less than I was expecting. Market Square Liquors, Timberlane.

Bottle @ The BeerMongers... Poured black with a moderate khaki head. Smooth and balanced. Didn’t lean too far on the hops or the malt. Roast was in there and complimented the floralness of the hops nicely. Some coffee and cocoa too. Green, earthy hop tones and balancing sweetness so the bitterness was just right.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark heavy brown pour, pretty much black, with a thin light beige sticky head. The nose is odd with something like roasted mushrooms and sautéed green bell peppers and an artisanal Italian mushroom sauce. Also a bit roasty, but really it smells like an appetizer at a fine restaurant. Not sure how to feel about that. The flavor is a bit more beery with some dark grains, a bit of roast, and an almost rye-like hoppiness with medium bitterness. Most of the bitter comes from the roast, so the hops are kinda quiet. But overall it’s not very bitter. Kinda quiet for a California BIPA actually. Semi-sweet and just kinda middle-of-the-road. A good into to the style though. Not scary aggressive.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark black pour with dark copper edges and one finger of creamy tan head. Awesome nose, very floral and ephemeral with lots of citrus zest and perfume-y hops and light bitter chocolate notes. Flavor is very bitter and burnt with lots of bitter coffee and chocolate. Notes of peanut hulls.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Black and pored with a small head. Hoppy with a medium body and a lingering hoppiness. Pretty standard for this style which means it is pretty good. Worth trying.
