A very nice black ale, well balanced and very drinkable. Nice malt billing, very caramel and sweet bread like.

22 oz bottle from Uptown Market in Beaverton, OR. The boozy aroma has it all: sweet molasses, roasty grains, and some floral hoppiness. The texture of this full-bodied beer is syrupy, and the finish is bitter. A malty sweetness like this one has is my favorite thing to find in a Black IPA, and for my tastes, it is a necessity to balance out the astringency of the roasted grains and the bitterness of the hops. The flavor profile even remains solid and balanced as the beer warms up. This beer is perfect on all accounts. Easily one of the best Black IPAs I’ve ever had!

Pours with a beautiful deep tan head. Toasty and slightly nutty aroma. Great mouth feel not as heavy as I was afraid of. Really well balanced.

On tap at Y-not Pizza, Chesapeake, VA. Dark brown pour with a short off-white head. Aroma of tangerine and pine. Flavor is a nice blend of espresso, piney hops, and citrus. Beautiful lacing that coats the glass. An outstanding black IPA.

This is just Nice. Capital N. hoppy aroma -- and maybe even a hint of sweetness on the nose too? Solid malty even roasty backbone, with a perfect infusion of hops and its requisite bitterness. Black IPAs are one of my favorite styles, and you absolutely cannot go wrong with this particular specimen. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Falling Rock in June. Pours black with small amber head and some lace. Aroma of floral hops, burnt malts, rich malts. Moderate mouthfeel and carbonation. Flavors of dark roasted malts, coffee, carob, dark chocolate. Overall very tasty, full bodied, rich with some bitter notes. Lovely overall.

The flavor mimics the positive aroma. The malt is dark in flavor, but without any burnt elements. I’m reminded of unsweetened cocoa (no milk). The bitterness is more pronounced in the swallow and lasts a while in the aftertaste, but it isn’t overbearing. The body leans to the thin side, but the carbonation is appropriate. Overall, this is an extremely well-crafted, well-balanced beer. It would be very easy to keep drinking this one all afternoon.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2013 Not As good as the ipA black not bad but a bitter malty step down. Thin head which fades. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
