Sampled at FoBAB 09. Awesome name. Also had no idea this had split peas in it. Hazy murky amber pour, some head. Aroma is caramelly and a bit wheaty. Kind of strange. Flavor is pretty strong and caramelly also. Really not sure what to make of this one, but it was aight.

Draft @ Jackie Oís (notes). Pours a hazy amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor are heavy on sweet caramel malts, some toasted bread, a grassy component comes in, oak, vinous notes and a touch of vanilla. If it stopped there, this would be higher. Unfortunately, I noted the pea aroma and flavor like some of the others who have rated this. It wasnít overpowering, just enough to distract. Alcohol was fairly well hidden.

Tap at BT> Pours a hazy deep murky amber with a weird grayish tint and a thinning head. Aroma is big spicy sharp phenolic and Belgian yeast sweetness, toffee, molasses, huge candy sugar, beet sugar, etc- with ginger and floral flowery notes, big black fermented tea. Flavor is beets, earth, spicy garlic, sharp phenolics, spicy- black peppery, cardamon harshness and finishes a bit too syrupy and sweet as well with a harsh phenol and solvent kick. Meh.

Draft, pours an amber body with an off white head. Big boozy body with some light oak, toast, and sweet toffee tones. Sugary and sweet with a modest warming, and some milder spicy earth tones to finish. A big messy and big, eh.

yeasty and malty burnt sweet hay and light enough body. yeasty despite the body and burnt competes with pleasant hop character.

FoBAB 2009. This was recommended to me by a friend from Champagne, and I still like him anyway because it may be the only time in my life that I can say I had a beer brewed with split peas. Actually, it wasnít too bad. The body was a hazy tarnished bronze and and the smallish head was off-white in color. It had an aroma of orchard fruit and vanilla and the flavor had a fruity liquer taste to it. At no time could I discern the presence of peas, split or otherwise, but in my heart I know they were there.

On tap at Jackie Oís during the Barrel Aged Beer Festival. Poured a hazy deep gold with a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had sweet grains and cereal with a bit of pea and a bit of wine. Flavor didnít come together well with an odd pea note, overly sweet grain and a wine note that didnít really come out.

hazy amber, no head, trace of lace. nose of earth malt, vanilla, trace of fruit. flavor had hints of fruit, caramel, but also a pronounced corn syrupiness, almost candy corn. medium bodied, sweet finish. much too sweet for my taste. sampled at FoBAB í09.
