3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap @ Stone Brewing’s Pour It Black 2014. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts, burnt sugar, barrel wood, oak and toffee. Black in color. Taste is very unique malt funk, roasted chocolate, espresso and cocoa bean overtones. Finishes with sweet, dark fruity congac, chocolate, plum and caramel sugars. Overall, pretty interesting and rich imperial stout. Congac adds some sweetness and aged dark fruit notes. A rating.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Awesome beer at Apex. Pours a pure black color with a small white head. A hot sugary cognac nose. The flavor is sugary sweet nastiness in all the right ways: raisins, massive barrel o’ cognac, some heat, vinous. Licorice. Wonderful.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at festival. I loved this beer right from the beginning. It has a really well balanced set of aromas that bring together the raosted malts and the sweet notes that some from the cognac barrel. Molasses, coffee, burnt caramel, very sweet with long dry finish. It was just exactly what I was looking for that day.

Wow! What a way to end a night after an insane Phish show they ended with ’Bold as Love’! Smells like cognac dipped chocolate, no joke. Bit of roast in there as well, but lots of wet cognac barrel. Pitch black. Flavors burst out with licorice, chocolatey roast, and burnt firewood. All of this is then blasted with a huge wet cognac barrel coating that floats above the flavors, doing it’s best to blend, but somewhat takes over. It’s okay though, this is a beast, and meant to be one! Epic night!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big cognac barrel aroma notes on the nose, dark roasted malts, dark bittersweet chocolate, dark fruit. Dark fruity alcohol notes. Pours black, tan head, thick viscuous. Flavors of dark chocolate, dark malts, dark fruit, big cognac barrel, brown sugar, vanilla, sweet alcohol, oak. Lingering cognac, some alcohol heat. Huge beer, lots of booze, lots of flavor. Probably not the best beer to end the evening with, wow.
