Named for the witch who guarded the fountain of life and death in Russian folklore, the black depths of this Cognac barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout hold coffee, licorice, and bittersweet chocolate flavors.

A little overbarrelled but good on average. Some booze, some dark chocolate. Pours black with good head and lacing. Bitter finish. Tap at Snallygaster.

Draft at Snallygaster 2014. Poured a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was vanilla, oaked notes, caramel character, barrel. Caramel, alcohol notes, boozy cognac notes, malts, dark fruits, coffee. Lots of alcohol in this one, a little boozy.

Awesome beer at Apex. Pours a pure black color with a small white head. A hot sugary cognac nose. The flavor is sugary sweet nastiness in all the right ways: raisins, massive barrel o’ cognac, some heat, vinous. Licorice. Wonderful.

Draft at festival. I loved this beer right from the beginning. It has a really well balanced set of aromas that bring together the raosted malts and the sweet notes that some from the cognac barrel. Molasses, coffee, burnt caramel, very sweet with long dry finish. It was just exactly what I was looking for that day.

On tap a O’Brien’s, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out cognac notes, and roasted malt. Flavour brings out cognac liqueur, roasted malt, and dark fruits. Quite full-bodied and fairly liqueur-oak. Good stuff.

Wow! What a way to end a night after an insane Phish show they ended with ’Bold as Love’! Smells like cognac dipped chocolate, no joke. Bit of roast in there as well, but lots of wet cognac barrel. Pitch black. Flavors burst out with licorice, chocolatey roast, and burnt firewood. All of this is then blasted with a huge wet cognac barrel coating that floats above the flavors, doing it’s best to blend, but somewhat takes over. It’s okay though, this is a beast, and meant to be one! Epic night!

Big cognac barrel aroma notes on the nose, dark roasted malts, dark bittersweet chocolate, dark fruit. Dark fruity alcohol notes. Pours black, tan head, thick viscuous. Flavors of dark chocolate, dark malts, dark fruit, big cognac barrel, brown sugar, vanilla, sweet alcohol, oak. Lingering cognac, some alcohol heat. Huge beer, lots of booze, lots of flavor. Probably not the best beer to end the evening with, wow.

Dark brown pour with a small off-white head. Nose of cognac, vanilla, oak, chocolate, and caramel. Dark fruits, light roast, cocoa powder, coffee, and alcohol. The flavor is a little bit boozy. Big cognac, vanilla, caramel, and alcohol. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, dark fruits, and some coffee. Kind of hot on the finish.

On tap. Dark brown with a fizzy off white head. Really good cognac, vanilla, chocolate and caramel aroma and taste with a robust roasted grain finish and a medium bodied oily palate.
