COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This copper colored American IPA took a wild left turn when we fermented it with our favorite Trappist ale yeast. Charged with hops, followed closely by a clove and pepper Belgian yeast character.

Draft at Frisco Taphouse & Brewery, Columbia, MD. Showed up at the table a dark golden brown with a smallish khaki head. The aroma was packed with spruce. Citrus rinds, toffee, wet cardboard, and a grainy maltiness were evident as well. Went down medium-bodied and slightly sticky. Caramel and dark grains started things off taste-wise. The resiny finish featured lots of bitter grapefruits and citrus rinds. There was an odd yeasty quality present throughout. Nothing special.

From a keg, I suspected was old. Keg was dated 8/27 or there abouts but the barkeep insisted that this was still plenty fresh. taste is of old paper, cardboard and stale hops.. no real belgian finish either, just attenuated paper goods.. almost like licking an envelope.

Somewhat hazy copper with a thick foamy sticky white head. Nose is piney and floral/grassy with sticky resin tones, mixed with an almost herbal Belgian yeastiness and a touch of orange rind. The flavor is sharp and acidic yet also sticky sweet right off the bat. Lots of grapefruit zest and floral resin with lots of caramel and a dry dusty yet fruity-eccentric Belgian yeast finish. More IPA than Belgian, though.

Pours brownish gold with off white head and lots of lacing. Aroma caught me off guard. Not what I was expecting. Kind of smells like a dirty shoe. Taste was also surprising. Tons of hops, with a spicy/yeasty finish. Unique.

Poured minimal head on a clearer dark straw colored body. The aroma is great. Bright citrus, pear and Valencia orange. The taste is complex with mandarin, moderate bitterness and finishes with black peppercorns. The texture is smooth with moderate carbonation. An outstanding beer that hits all the notes perfectly.

From gravity cask @ Rattle N’ Hum. This one is really cloudy and deep brown - almost muddy looking in the glass and it has a medium sized really bubbly off-white top. It has quite an interesting aroma with something really spicy. In a strange way it actually reminds me a lot of root vegetable like peppery rutabaga. It also has some soft yeasty hints, a good amount of red amber malts in the taste and a nice sweetness that rounds it off. Really different and a really present taste on this crazy Ivan guy, but I quite enjoy it. The cask condition has really transformed this. 13.06.2013
