From gravity cask @ Rattle Ní Hum. This one is really cloudy and deep brown - almost muddy looking in the glass and it has a medium sized really bubbly off-white top. It has quite an interesting aroma with something really spicy. In a strange way it actually reminds me a lot of root vegetable like peppery rutabaga. It also has some soft yeasty hints, a good amount of red amber malts in the taste and a nice sweetness that rounds it off. Really different and a really present taste on this crazy Ivan guy, but I quite enjoy it. The cask condition has really transformed this. 13.06.2013

On tap, golden amber pour with medium sized off white head. Aroma of yeast, caramel, fruit, spice and hops. Taste of caramel, yeast, clove, sight pepper and dry hop finish. Full bodied and great carbonation, good beer.

4oz at Maxís. POurs light amber. Good lacing, little head. Aroma is largely hoppy. Flavor is same, but with added yeast. Not a lot of complexity, but still good.

Tap at the brewpub. Clear rich orange pour with a clingy white head. Sweet, yeast, caramel malt, potent aroma. Strong on the yeast. Nice.

4oz sample at Maxís Hop Fest 2013. Pours a dark orange with some cloudy, white head. Candy sweet nose, honey, lemon, orange, grapefruit, soap. Flavor is sweet, honey comb, orange, pine, soap. Full, sweet finish.

On draft at Hungry Monk, amber/copper pour, malty aroma and flavor dominate, there is some Belgian IPA flavor present, but not enough Hoppiness for my liking. Still ok.

Tap at stags head, really enjoyed this one. Pours caramel colored with nice head. Nose of Belgian yeasted and light tropical fruits. Tastes of bananas, Belgian yeast and spice, floral, peach, and grapefruit. Nice lingering finish.

I really donít have a clue what this brew has to do with submarine maneuvers, but whatever. =) Dark amber pour (really dark for an IPA of any sort!) -- with a mid-size head. The yeasty esters actually come forward more aggressively than the hops in this one -- Iím actually astonished it clocks in at 70 IBUs -- green and black pepper and a bready note are followed by the caramel and then just a faded remnant of the citrus typical of Bear Republicís other IPAs. This really is a wild left turn (got it). Reminds me a little of the recent trend to make black saisons -- itís definitely got a Belgian yeast strain, but is a little more aggressive/forceful than most Belgian ales. Like if Greg Koch was a guest brewer at Chimay. Thatís actually exactly it -- itís a Belgian Arrogant Bastard. In that sense? Itís a pretty great. Definitely different!

Draft at sb. Pours a cloudy dark amber with a dense and creamy tan head that sticks around. Mild floral sweet mango nose. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Caramel and some mild tangy esters on the mid palate, maybe a little bit of sweet cream.

Copper colored beer with a tall off-white head. Nose is floral hops, lots of yeast, spice, and some citrus. Clove, pine, and sweet bready malt. Decent sweetness on the palate, good hops, too. Caramel, bread, and banana. Citrus, pine, and yeast. Clove and pepper spiciness. Moderate bitterness on the finish.
