COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This copper colored American IPA took a wild left turn when we fermented it with our favorite Trappist ale yeast. Charged with hops, followed closely by a clove and pepper Belgian yeast character.

Churchkey 10oz ($5): Pours a brownish color without very much head; no lacing is left afterwards. Caramel, floral hops, Belgian yeast (but not too overt). Beer has a sufficient amount of hops and definitely falls in with the Belgian IPA crowd of beers. The Belgian yeast in the taste is not as strong as other examples of the style (Raging Bitch for instance). In a sense, it veers more to the IPA than the BA. Still though, a very interesting beer, with all the flavors done right, though I should add that this was by far not the best offering from Bear Republic that I have encountered.

On draft at Capones. Pours a clear coppery amber with a medium sized white head. Aroma of floral hops, faint citrus and lemon tea. Taste of floral hops, honey lemon tea, light pine and citrus.

Fratto (2616) - Arlington, Texas, USA - JUL 23, 2010
On tap at the Fort Worth Gingerman. Dark reddish pour with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel, pine hops, and a little sweetness. Taste is sweet fruit up front with a bitter hop, caramel finish.

Tap at Gman courtesy of Fratto. Clear heavy rust color. Light ring of head. Hops on the nose, leafy and mossy though. Flavor is fruity and leafy hops. Wet mouthfeel with soothing earth elements. Not spicy but present.

Draft at Lure’s Annapolis. Dark amber with a nicely laced head. The aroma is nicely blended caramel malt with a hint of grassy hops. This drinks with a similarly well balanced concoction of a warming almost milky alcoholic malt base topped with a just bitter enough hop flourish. Excellent. (#3942, 7/13/2010).

On tap at the Draught House in Austin. Pours a clear, dark cola-colored body with a ring of white head. Aromas some piney hops bubblegum and yeast. Flavors of piney yeast up front, some candi sugar sweetness and more hops and yeast later. Medium to full mouthfeel and active, fine carbonation. Interesting. No alcohol present and a very easy drinker.

On tap at Whole Foods in Chandler. Pours a hazy amber color with a creamy off-white head. Smells and tastes predominantly of bitter hops, toffee, black tea, and belgian yeast. A bit too dry and bitter for the style.

Tap at 1702 Tucson AZ. Dark copper and clear. Small head. Nose of Belgian yeast and and nice west coast hop. Belgian yeast comes out clearly on the palate, with the BR hops just behind. Fades a bit on the end and alcohol is not evident. I could like this as a session beer daily.

Drake (8617) - Free Union, Virginia, USA - JUN 29, 2010
Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. 5/14/10. Pours a clear copper color with a medium creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is big bitter hop notes with tropical fruit and a bit of toffee. The taste is very bitter resiny hops with some tropical notes. Any malts are completely overpowered. Decent beer but it could benefit from some more balance.

(on tap at Papago, Scottsdale). Dark amber color with off-white head. Aroma of citrus and resin. The hop aroma is perfect! Taste is bitter with underlying sweetness. Medium bodied with long bitter finish. At first, it seemed to be unbalanced, but it improved as it warmed. I don’t detect the belgian yeast very much, however.
