COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the late 1800s, American brewing pioneers made a Pilsner to be proud of. It was made with 100 percent barley malt, and hopped with noble hop varieties for a rich smooth, yet crisp taste. This is our version.

Draft at Whole Foods. Pours a bright golden color, high clarity; modest, fine-bubbled white head. Lightly coarse honeyed and Pils malt aroma; touch of minerals. Medium-light body; medium-high carbonation; honeyed maltiness and, again, coarse Pils malt; modest mineral notes; not a particularly dialed in Bohemian Pils, but crisp and refreshing. Light finish of Pils malt and toastiness.

Draft. Clear yellow pour, white head. Grains, slightly floral, light bitter hops. A nice clean, dry, hoppy pilsner. I like it.

Growler from Bierkraft. A nice bitterness, very Czech pils. Not complex but nice, with bitter water edge. Medium mouthfeel, decent drinkability. Lacey.

On tap at Alewife, Charm City. Pretty good Czech-style pils here, starting from a bright golden pour that’s moderate carbonated. Crisp looking all round, and the nose is lightly fruity for the most part. It’s certainly a dry and hoppy pils, but not in the kind of noble hop way you’d expect. It’s more like a leafy, half-pils half-APA in some sense. Pretty enjoyable variation.

On tap at Churchkey. Light spicy hops, a touch of of bready malt and some nice caramel sweetness to add nice balance. Good crisp palate, very refreshing. Pretty solid.

(Old BA rate - tap) Slightly hazy, but mostly clear yellowy color; poured with a very thin white head. Minerally and earthy hoppiness; solid maltiness as well in the aroma. Nicely hoppy and very much within the style range (this is certainly no Prima Pils); balanced well with the malts. Medium MF; very muted carbonation; would have liked a crisper MF. Really nice drinking; sessionable is the key here. Overall, nice tasting Pils and puts a load of others too shame. However, I was looking for something a little crisper.

This beer arrives from the tap with a pale gold, almost brilliantly clear color. There is a wisp of white head that rings the glass. The aroma smells of honey-like malt and a light cracker-like grain note. Some light dried grass aromatics and a touch of lemon zest can also be found in the nose. As the beer warms up the malt becomes more noticeable; this actually has a fairly nice grain character to it in the aroma.

As the beer first hits my palate it comes off as crisp with a clean bitterness to it up front. Pale grain notes are noticeable in the middle and there is a touch of grassiness in the finish as well as a lightly firm bitterness. Lemon like hop notes lightly spice this light tasting beer. Really this is nice, light and refreshing; it is quite clean except for a lingering bitterness that can seem a touch sharp.

This actually seems like a good example of a Helles; it is perhaps missing the malt depth that is found in a good German example. I could drink a lot of this in the warmer months.
