Dark red and brown. Served in snifter. Nice taste of light grassy hops. Very dry aftertaste, that makes you want more, and more, and more, an more

"this is the newbie i was looking forward too most, and it was not a letdown. toeing the line between strong ale and barleywine. itís one of the rare "doubles" that still manages to taste like the beer it was based on, but on a much grander scale. Iím a big fan of the aggressive nature of red Rocket, and this one is even better. thicker, fuller body. a dark ruby color. big hops and malt on the nose. a little metallic from some peet, still hoppy and malty sweet. thick. great brew...rivals the Bearís best!"

At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Clear dark ruby with a thin persistent off white head. Sweet yet hoppy aroma, with brown sugar, floral bitterness, caramelized toffee, and a bit of grapefruit. Nice flavor of candy sugar and dark sweet maltiness, some caramel, but also a big hoppy tone of grapefruity floral hops, lots of bitterness. very balanced but huge and initially almost too sweet. Lots of hops.

Appearance: Pours a deep red with a lasting creamy head.

Aroma: Herbal grassy hops, brown sugar.

Taste: Big bready malt, rock sugar with a bitter hop finish.

Mouthfeel: Sticky with modest carb.

Overall: Iíd take regular ol Red Rocket over this any day. I think the larger amounts of malt canceled everything out on this beer, at least for me.

On tap. Pours with a hazed amber brown body and a tan head. Aromas are hoppy, orange, spicy and caramel. Flavors of alcohol, burnt toffee, fruit, bitter. Alcoholic mouthfeel, thin with light bubbles.

Pours a murky brown. Hops hit the nose pretty quick. Good base of malt. Hops working well. As I drink more it becomes a bit of a slog. Dial back the power and this could really work.

dark reddish brown color. Very thick full body. Lots of caramel and strawberries, but a bit too much of everything and doesnít meld well.

Draft at obriens. Clear dark reddish brown pour, with off-white head. Bunch of sweet malts, caramel, toffee, raisin, fruit, and bitter piney hops in the finish. A big, chewy ASA.

On tap at Obriens. This is serious. Serious malt going on here. Deep brown color, thin ring head. Aroma is caramel brown sugar and cinnamon spice. Hops come through strong in flavor after the sweet, nearly overwhelming malt. Finishes with warm booze on the palate. Enjoy in moderation, indeed.

Mahogany pour with big tan head. Roasty malt nose with a liitle spice. Medium body. Roasted and toffee malts, chocolate notes, balanced with hops. Mellow finisher. Nice but not my style.and not that unique

A draft pour at the Bear Republic brewpub in Healdsburn, CA. This came a hazy dark amber with garnet colored highlights, a tan head, and good lacing rings. Nose of citrus and floral hops, ripe fruit, and caramel malts. Big bold mouithfeel with some alcohol on the tongue. The flavor is strong with fruit, and citrus. The finish is long and bitter, but very nicely so with the alcohol present to the end. This is a big, bold, and very favorable beer that is good from start to finish.
