Crafted in the spirit of thirst quenching Mexican lagers, this well balanced amber lager is crisp with just a suggestion of caramel. 2009 California State Fair - SILVER 2008 Great American Beer Festival® American-Style Amber Lager – BRONZE

Location: Tap at Blind Tiger, 5/9/10

Aroma: The nose on this one is light, some malts, fruits, and floral hops
Appearance: It has a pale lager look, it is pretty clear, with a small head
Flavor: The taste is much the same, along with some grass and grainy notes
Palate: It has a fairly light body, and a mediocre at best mouthfeel
Overall Impression: It is an aliright pale lager, but it really is sort of eh... I expected a better beer from Bear Republic, but even a great brewery makes a mediocre beer every now and again.

On draft at Bear Republic Brewing (Healdsburg, CA): Pours out a hazy golden color, white head, no lacing, into a 4oz. glass. Aroma of dry barley, fresh wheat, and leafy. Crisp caramel flavor with light grains and muted orange. Usually I run away from this style, but this one was quite good. Drinkability: Nothing stands out, but overall stays balanced. Pairing: Caesar salad topped with grilled chicken. Rebuy: Sure. #367 on 31032010, DG.

Draft @ Bear Republic. Pours a hazy, orange-caramel color; creamy, off-white head with good retention and lacing. Toasty caramel, light citrus, and some basic graininess in the aroma; simple and reasonably smooth. Medium body: lightly creamy, medium-high carbonation; pleasant citrus hoppiness (minerals, light earthiness), toasty cereal, and light graininess; tasty, simple, and reasonably basic, with dominant notes of toasty cereal. Lasting, dry finish of toastiness, light grains, and hints of husk.

Draft sample at Cincy Winter Beerfest. Poured clear dark copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium toasted malt and small hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Well balanced flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Drinkable brew that met my expectations.

Draft sample at Cincy Beerfest. Pours a clear gold color with an inch-thick white head. Aroma of caramel malts, grains, cereal, honey, and red apples. Flavor of sweet caramel malts, earthy hops, honey, grains, and cereal. Not bad for a lager. Light-bodied with above-average carbonation and a crisp finish.

On tap at the brewpub. This lager poured a clear light orange with a small off- white head with orange tinges in the bubbles.. The nose is fruity with caramel malts. Medium body and smooth mouthfeel . The flavor is fruity and shows the malts well, and the hops are floral . Good lightly sweet finish. This is similar to Mexican beer but better executed.

Looks really nice in the glass, a golden coppery color with a nice off white head. Not picking up much in the aroma. Some light grassyness and fruit. The flavor is the same. Pretty watery. Mostly sweet, with some grass in the finish. Not offensive, but not really tasty either.
