On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz. Clear brownish copper color with a thick beige head that leaves tons of epic lacing. Aroma is surprisingly hop-centric, with lots of pine, orange zest, and herbal resin. Flavor is also rather hoppy. Herbal with solid bitterness and only a touch of cocoa maltiness. No idea why this would be classified as a brown ale; it’s seriously hoppier than a lot of IPAs. Medium-thin body, nice carbonation, very robust. Good beer.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2009 6oz pour @ blind tiger. Bartender says this is all the hops and malt left over in the year to craft a one time brew. Cool concept. Pours brown but has a strong pine hop tang to it. Very smooth, medium body with loong bitter/astrigent finish. What more ipas should try to mirror.

A nice light offering. On tap at Sugar Maple in Milwaukee. Reddish brown with a small white head. Noticeable citrus and pine in the aroma with a hint of rose petal. The taste is a bit rosey as well with some light fruit and a piney finish. Neat.

On tap at Mugs in Brooklyn. Mix of malt and hops aroma. Dark amber color almost black with a medium tan head. Hoppy flavor that’s tart and sweet.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a light tan head. Malty, light cocoa aroma. Malty flavor with grapefruit and light pine. Medium-plus bodied. Good hop flavor. Grapefruit and light pine lingers.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Deep brown beer. Aroma is very fruity and lightly spicy. Softly fruity with a lot of orange peel and grapefruity citrus. Rich pine hoppiness with a biscuity malt sweetness through the middle. A bit of dark malt character that gives a light cocoa flavour. Finishes with a firm spicy/piny hoppiness. Pretty nice.

Tap. Pours to a nice brownish body with a tan head. The beer is a conglomeration of smooth fruits, clean yeasts, light balanced hops. Kind of like a mild. The beer had a surprisingly clean light palate.

Draft at BT. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Citric pine and fresh cut grass. Floral with sharp carbonation and a hint of coco and chocolate malts. Some toasted malt and a bitter coffee finish. Interesting brew that much i’ll say.

On tap at brewery. Citrus and pine aroma. Tastes like a pale ale with ipa hops. Bitter finish with grapefruit notes.

Aroma was mostly malt characteristics, chocolate, molassas, roasting, the taste was the slightly muddled flavor you would expext of jumbled malting and hops, the hop flavoring and bittering take over in the finish. Its interesting ,but I would not buy a lot of this
