This winter ale has a warming effect due to the Mexican cocoa, mace, nutmeg and cinnamon. This ale is just right on a cold day.

Tap at Hop Devil - a light and bready holiday ale - the spices, nutmeg most prominent, are actually quite mellow - it’s more grainy and pale ale like - a bit of mineral character adds to this impression - very much like a british pale ale with nutmeg and cinnamon.

Tap at Hop Devil Grill. Aroma is very spicy, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Flavour is fairly thin though and lacking in maltiness which makes it come across a bit dishwatery. Watery palate, dirty and not very good at all.

Tap @ Bear Republic. Poured a clear light copper color with an off-white head. Cinnamon and nutmeg with some caramel malt underneath makes up the aroma. the flavor was dry and spiced. Light body.

Draft. Pours a brilliant dark amber. No head retention and no lacing. Big aroma of allspice. Flavor is dominated by allspice with slight sweetness in the finish. Interesting beer but the allspice dominates every aspect of this beer and makes it a bit rough.

Guest draught at brewpub. Old? i think this has been discontinued. Anyway, pleasant, somewhat neutral nose w/slight rasberry offerings. No head on this medium brown brew. Smooth on mouth. Flavor extremely biscuity & grainy, edging towards papery. Dry, peppery hops.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2008 1/13/07 Draft. Clear, light amber with an ivory head. Spicy ginger aroma. Very thin mouth feel. Almost no malt aspect at all. Tastes like ginger and carbonation. I returned it and asked for something else. Not the best effort from a great brewery. Re-Rate. 2/10/08. On draft at the Brew Pub, sitting right next to goldtwins. Bright copper color. clear with an almost white head. Very spicy aroma; lots of cinnamon and nutmeg. This could use a bit more malt sweetness to back up all that spice. Very dry, almost to the point of astringency. Nutmeggy finish.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a big beige head. Sweet malt and holiday spice aroma. malty, spice flavor - way way too much xmas spice - it blows away everything else. Medium body. Lingering spice - how I wish it would just go away.
