3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Like most American Strongs, I generally compare to Arrogant Bastard, which is one of my favorites. This just didnít measure up. The look of the beer was great. Very dark and a nice head, but the nose was a bit weak and I was less than impressed by the hop character. Certainly not a BAD beer, but not a GREAT one either.

creamy medium tan head, nice vertical draping lacing. dark ruby/amber in color. nose is piney, hop, and sweet malted rye. medium carbonation. medium mouthfeel. start is slight alcohol/rye, sweet bourbon (southern comfort??!!). then the mega hop flavor and finish with some sweet balance. not much aftertaste, but itís hop bitterness. alcohol well played.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 9, 2005 Well after few months of this on the shelf i learned it doesnít age well. Beer is full of dead yeast and protein and there wasnt a huge heaping of head created when you pour. Now its basically so flat it wont create no head or leave behind any lace. My ratings numbers still stand as before, but i feel more experienced to revisit this beer again. Nose has a hop presence and hint of pine. Flavor is hoppy and has some grapefruit along with pine and finishes with a bitter note. Very good strong ale just wish i had a fresh bottle.

POured with such an appropriate amount of head fit for a trappist glass. This of course was left right on top of a good dark red brown body. Aroma is what I would expect from an american strong ale. Good inblance of the strong hops goodness overpowering the malt trying to catch ground. Flavor is smooth....Initally, then there is a good sweetness to it, then when it hits you, Itís bitter like my Ex, and thats mighty bitter. After that, I still just taste the bitterness. If you wait long enough between tastes, the bitterness will subside enough (if that says anything) such that the rye will give a slender spice to the mix, nicely complementing the hops, the hops and also more hops.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Attention IPA lovers- you must get this one! This has got it all- sweet, sharp, spicy hops with ample malt to back it up. About as close as a you can get to the IPA/Double IPA border which means you can have a lot of it without getting dizzy. I love the dark red appearance- it is a great advertisement for the bigness of this beer. Big, bold, juicy- I donít know how the Rye (18%) figures into this magical elixer but it works for me. Purchased at Binnyís in Chicago.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
I found it to be just what a hophead would order. A lovely dark hue to it with a heavy load of hops to match. For all my fellow hopheads out there this is a must try.

Exceptional IPA grapefruit highly hopped with edge of rye, which made it quite interesting. Amber. Very drinkable to the point of drop off. Hop burps citrus aroma. Malts for balance.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This is a fantastic beer. Pours a deep copper/red color with a nice white head. The aroma and taste are dominated by hops of which are very flavorful. A wondeful beer and highly recommended.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark amber color with a long lasting, creamy off-white head. Aroma: I can smell this stuff from over a foot away. Smell is sweet, hoppy, and fruity. Huge aroma. Very hoppy, very smooth. Alcohol seems to be well masked.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
wow hot damn. smells like an IIPA, pours like an IIPA, and you guessed it- bitter like an IIPA. pours out dark brown color witha nice white head that just sits there and doesnt show any signs of leaving the beer. smell is very hoppy. smells like great divide hercules. taste is hoppy and dry on the finish, goes down very well. a nice smooth drinking 8% ale. this could get me floored if i had cases of it. i think i found something that i would buy all the time if it were in this state. cheap (3.00 a 22), potent, and excellent. a combo that is rivaled by few. awesome beer.
