Might be the best rye I’ve tasted. Copper with a ruby red tint. The nose is absolutely amazing. Spices and florals. Medium bodied, entering the palate with light toffee and roasted nuts before giving way to citrus and hop bitterness.

At just on cool and into a snifter. Lifeless pour sees a thin, flaccid head form that deflates with similar haste. Fiery, ruby tinged copper with good clarity on the first pour. The yeast pack muddying the second. Very little evident carbonation. Sweet, caramelised dark candi, sticky fruit syrup, burnt sugar and pine needles on the nose with nuances of stinging nettles, wholemeal bread and Pumpernickel. Sweet, sugary and rich Cara malt palate. Seemed cloying on first sip until the hops kick in. Quite spicy and herbaceous in back, the hops are earthy, piney and resinous. The bitterness is well controlled and in balance with the sticky malts. Blood orange, pear and pineapple builds in the swallow. Alcohol aids drying it out somewhat, well masked by the hefty hop and malt. Long linger, good meaty body with an oily mouthfeel. Very pleasant but somewhat lacking, especially the rye. Drinks like a beer of modest strength. Not bad! (1 pint 6fl.Oz, no date stamp, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Caramel, dark amber in colour. This has a big whiff of hops in the aroma, quite complex. A full bodied palate with some slight sweetness and spicy notes as well. plenty of hop flavour here, typical IPA in style but the addition of the rye makes this more interesting and not just a hop fest.

This is exactly what I’m looking for in a rye ale. Big, beautiful spicy hops aroma, pours a dark amber with a light tan head. The taste is that big rye spice with a good malty balance and a lot of signature rye dryness. This really is the picture perfect Rye IPA.

Pours a hazy dark amber color with a nice sized white head. Aroma is caramel, some rye and pine/citrus. Taste has a sweet start and a bitter finish. Finishes a bit dry and alcohol is well masked.

Very sweet dark fruit aromas dominate the nose. Pours thick and dark, like a plum. A much lighter flavor pallet than I expected. Dark fruits, grassy hops, a little citrus, and a nice bitter aftertaste. Nice creamy mouthfeel that coats.

this is a thick and sticky bitter/sweet love syrup. one of my all time favorites. top 5 for sure. if you are ever in sonoma county it’s definitely worth a trip to healdsburg for a pint at the bear republic brewery.

Pours a rich red, with substantial head. Lot of malt (bread/caramel) on the nose. Earthy, dry finish. Not what you normally expect from a imperial IPA (not sure why its classified as one on the site). More of a hoppy strong ale. Interesting and different. Well put together beer.

Pours a dark amber color with an off white head and good lacing. Aroma of malt and rye along with piney hops. Sweet Taste is similar with an undertone of excellent rye presence and bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel.

Pours the color of muddy pond water. Moderate fizz and head which was a bit lumpy. Aroma of hops, pine and lemon. Yeast. Moderately wet mouth feel as well. Tasted strongly of spice, yeast and rye and a strong alcohol kick (but no burn of course). The finish was quite bitter and hoppy. Bold like west coast beers are, this is a great beer if you like rye.
