A high gravity IPA brewed with 18% rye malt. Hop Rod Rye has a floral hop aroma and subtle caramel notes with a slightly earthy and spicy rye character. 2009 California State Fair – GOLD 2003 California State Fair – GOLD 2002 Real Ale Festival (Chicago) – GOLD

Poured into shaker from bottle. Aroma is orange peel. Color is copper and had a decent off white head. Taste is hoppy, citrus and malt. Finish has a bitterness and the malt comes through. Non filtered there was some sediment but almost clear. Mouthfeel is thicker but still slick. Alcohol seems nicely hidden. Enjoyed, well done.

Very rich on the nose with a clear caramel aroma mixed with orange peel, dry figs, cherries herbs. Medium body, but solid, nice creamy texture. Alcohol is quite high and this propably adds sweetness to the flavour. The finish is long and a bitter aftertaste lingers in the mouth. I think this kind of beers are good especially in winter, very nice.

Bottle, numerous times. Pours a darker than usual golden with slight white head. Aroma is floral hops but that quickly goes away. Taste is banana, distant hops and some residual sugar an pine. That sounds good but this isn’t great. Might be old but I see this all over. Bottle date.

A well made DIPA, but I feel like I’ve tasted this one before, mainly because the rye doesn’t impart too much into this. I was expecting a really chewy spicy DIPA because of the rye, but its not as evident as in other ales, high gravity perhaps? I don’t know, but its still very good.

An excellent beer that makes a nice change from the ubiquitous IPAs. Rich, full bodied, and balanced the only downside is it’s strength - it’s a little too strong to enjoy in the quantities I’d like!

Dark orange pour with a decent white head. Orange, pine, cinnamon, grapefruit, catty, rye. Meaty with some black pepper flecks, definite rye, honey, lemon. Just another awesome beer from a great great brewery. I can’t wait to get some more.

Bottled. Pours slightly hazy deep amber with an average sized, lacing off-white head. Aroma of floral hops, rye, grapefruit, pine and earthy notes. Sweet flavor tha ends up solid bitter. Medium to full bodied, oily text. and soft carb. A great 2 x IPA.

355ml bottle from beer hive. Dark amber pour, good, long lasting head. Spice nose, orange too. Might make a good Christmas beer! Very bitter finish, which overwhelms any rye subtleties. Nice beer though.

355ml bottle from Beerhive. Appearance - dark amber with a big generous head, Nose - spiced with just a hint of orange. Earthy though. Taste - oranges which then get overwhelmed a little bit by the rye kicking through. Palate - medium bodied with a big tangy texture and a very long dry finish. Overall - it’s balanced, so it works well.

Pours a clear, darker red with a smaller off white head. The aroma is sweet, with pine, caramel, grapefruit, and resin hops. It leans towards being malty though. The taste is more malty as well. The traditional hoppy flavors of grapefruit and pine serve more as undertones. Its sweet with more caramel and rye. Slightly sweet with some good bitterness. Medium in body, with a chewy texture, and about average in carbonation. This one is ok, but I like my IPAs less malty.
