Tap @ Galbraith’s (allowances made for the distance traveled - have also had this in bottles and on tap on the West Coast). Hazy red-brown pour with a short beige head leaving heavy lace. Nose balanced between burnt caramel malt and piney hops, with a hint of chocolate and ethanol. Medium body and carbonation. Burnt caramel, coffee, chocolate, rye bitterness and spruce hops. There is also some umami in the taste, maybe wood or a mild cheddar. Long, dry finish. A solid effort, but still prefer the more hop-forward IIPAs.

Poured from a bottle. Deep, reddish brown. Cream colored head. Lots of lacing. Rye shows up in the aroma but the nose fades quickly. A little spiciness in the taste which doesn't quite cover up the sweetness which lasts through the aftertaste. Good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Beer pours a beautiful red Amber with a nice foamy cream head. Aroma is almost perfume like with a lot of rose, some citrus notes and a lingering hoppy background. Taste starts out with the hoppiness and ends with a strawberry and orange flavor that balances the initial bitterness. Really delicious, complex, and interesting beer. Had from bottle.

Solid performer. Nice long lived head, cloudy appearance, blasting hop aroma - piney to the point of sappy (tree sap). But the taste is a bit more controlled. Enough malt to taste through the pinecones. Perfection on bitterness.
