| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Old penny pour with generous sticky beige head. Tangerine spice nose, ginger candy and creamy sweetness. Rather sweet and rather hoppy, but the interplay is such that at any given moment it is hard to notice. Also completely surprising how gentle it is for an 8% beer. Could just as easily be 5% and I’d be none the wiser. Mint, grapefruit and a pinch of cinnamon. Lingering medicinal bitterness on the lips. A beer crafted with obvious skill, but in spite of that, doesn’t quite become more than the sum of its parts.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 29, 2009 Had this before my Thanksgiving feast. Pours hazy, orange/brown with a deep, pillowy, off-white head that diminished to about 1/2-finger from the 22oz. bottle: Malt is quite prominent with a good amound of sweet factor at the beginning, followed by a surge of bitter, dry hops. Earthy/grassy overall, with some other notable hints of multigrain and rye bread, lemons and other citrus, molasses, and chewy granola. Drinkability: Medium-bodied with an overall soft, creamy texture and lingering finish (in other words, bomber!). Rebuy: I’ll keep coming back to this one. #230 on 29112009, DG. harrisoni (6798), Ashford, Kent, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 29, 2009 On tap at The Rake, Borough. Clear chestnut colour, lasting beige head. Lovely big hop aroma. OK in mouths, some rye character cereal. It’s good, but maybe the finish is a bit of a let down. Good resiny hops on aroma. though. daleharshman (190), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Bomber from South Bay Drugs ($4.49). Pours quite dark for a DIPA, a lovely ruby-brown with small beige head. Aroma is pine/spruce forest, tangerine, and resiny hops along with some malty tones. Flavor is rather sharp and bitter hops (grapefruit) but with a fairly balanced malt character that is mellowed by what I guess is the rye. I’m inexperienced with rye, but though it would be more detectable since it is 20% of the grain bill. I do think the rye helps balance some of the initial bitterness in the finish. I’d be interested in trying this on tap. (188, 1159) Botnik (109), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 23, 2009 12oz bottle. Dark brown with visible sediment. Moderate off white head with persistent lacing. This is my first rye ale so I’m not sure what the rye does to the taste. A rich beer with strong but balanced hops. Well done. gracefullypunk (306), Washington, USA

Very pleasant malt backbone that gives way to the bracing hops. A really nice beer that I would buy again. KornDogg (196), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
