bp (308), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle: pours a dark redish-brown with a frothy tan had, aroma is very hoppy, taste is fairly malty and sweet with very little hop presence (surprising given the aroma though the hops did start to come through a bit more as it warmed a bit), dry finish that also has a hint of grapefruit. Very solid stuff.
foundmd (37), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 4, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a brown amber color with a thick head. Great balance of big hops and malts, combined with citrus, pine, and rye. Has a distinct depth for an IPA. Nice bitter aftertaste. Orion1800 (46), Piedmont, California, USA Oct 4, 2008 The hops just evaporate off this brew, giving the air around its surface an amazing aroma. Very crisp aromatic and flavoring hops, with a smooth and nicely bitter hop finish. Crispity - hopity. And with a nice rye flavor not-so-hidden in the mix beergod! (44), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 2, 2008 This IPA pours a nice dark amber color with a nice small head. Nice citrus and slight malt on the nose. Flavor is great! Nice hop flavor but really balanced with a nice malt backbone. Body is nice and full bodied and overall another great example of the quality that you’ve come to expect from Bear Republic.... kosko20 (137), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Oct 2, 2008 Not a fan of the darker ruby color for the IIPA. Nice head. Aroma is some hops and correct me if I’m wrong but the same used in Surly Furious...only Surly does a better job of bringing out the aroma, flavor and bitterness of them. This is nicely balanced but not a fan of the rye malt flavor. taalhiker (111), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 30, 2008 From bottle. Part of April Dayton Beertasting event.
Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is a hoppy citrus.
Taste is very smooth - no sense of the 8% alcohol.
