sensory first impression: Smells wonderful, malty. Illustration is a little overdone for me, but fun. Amber pour with a tan head. Hop sentiment note on bottle does not disappoint - a beautiful beer, and aroma intensifies. Head is thick and natural and firm. Quite a fetching ale. Angry red haze - with hops to match - what a great biting flavor. So very bitter, but sweetly balanced. Dark flavor. Not nearly the whimsical identity of its label. Lacing is nice already. Foam is rocky and bulbous. This is a high scorer. Attention spreads over the back top of the mouth and the very front of the tongue.
Aroma/Olfactory:
Malt flavor is: caramel, black coffee, nuts, and rye.
Hop flavor is: basil, celery, and rye.
Yeast flavor is: earthy, dusty.
Other flavors include: Grapefruit. Pine. Very fine.
Visuals/Appearance:

Liquid is: hazy and cloudy. Sandblasted.
Head and lace are: bumpy, reducing over time to a thinner film, light tan
Taste/Flavor:
Maltiness or Sweetness level is: high medium
Hoppiness or Bitterness level is: heavy
Sour level is: light, and very nice.
Palate/Tactile:
Body or Mouthfeel is: high medium
Texture is: creamy, sticky, crisp
Carbonation is: quiet, but crisp
Finish is: very long, and quite enjoyable.
Overall experience: Reminds me of Victory hopped up ales quite a bit. Beautiful. I love this beer - as a special treat, it’s very nice. It might as well be imported, being from Cali, but it’s delicious and it’s special. If you like hops, you can’t go wrong here - it’s in my top 5, for sure.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Hermod (2194) - Vantaa, FINLAND - MAY 18, 2013
355ml bottle. Mahogany color, thick, lasting white head. Rye, losds of it in aroma, also some sticky boozyness. Flavor has rye, hops, caramel. Bitter warming finish. Not In best shape anymore I am afraid, most of the hops are gone. Almost full bodied.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 KansaiBeerLvrs (229) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAY 13, 2013
On sale from Antenna America, made with 18% Rye. 8% a nice amber brown with a beige head. Fruity hop aroma, tropical fruit mango & citrus. Bitter at first, nice biscuit/malt/caramel in the middle & a clean bitter finish. None of that fruitiness comes through in the flavor. Good but not great, an average rye beer...
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Chrishrt30 (4) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 13, 2013 does not count
Pours deep brown, with only a small white head, not much lacing, questionably clean glass.
Nose is fairly light, but hints of sour dough bread, toffee and fresh hops.
Flavour follows the aroma, a very doughy beer, with hints of caramel, toffee, cinnamon and allspice. The malt profile is terrific, bready and a lingering caramel finish, to go with the rye bite and hop bitterness. Drinks a lot like and IPA, the rye addition gives the sour dough bite.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 wedgie9 (1590) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Tasted on 5/12/13 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle Purchased at AJ’s in Mesa. Pours dark but clear auburn with an average off-white head that slowly recedes to average, but messy lace. The nose is very intense with plenty of caramel malt, spicy rye, and a ton of bitter floral and resin hops. The flavor is the same with the caramel and spicy rye flavors on the front of the palate, giving way to the very intensely bitter floral and resin hops. The body is full with average carbonation and a very long spicy rye and bitter hops finish.

Medium amber. Spicy nose, mild floral. Piney, earthy hops laced with spicy rye notes. Semi-sweet caramel malts. Long spicy finish. Good stuff.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 ianwelby (202) - SCOTLAND - MAY 10, 2013
Lively reddish-amber beer with a thin head. Aroma is very hoppy with a floral, citrus edge to it and an underlying sweetness too. The hop and citrus is there in the flavour as well but stronger is what I assume is the rye which is very strong on the tongue. The caramel-sweetness is slightly more prominent in the mouth than it is in the scent as well. After a sip the hop comes through a bit more as backtaste. Very nice indeed.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DylansDad (157) - NEW ZEALAND - MAY 10, 2013
Nice enough but the flavour never really developed or opened up in any way, my last sip tasted pretty much the same as my first.

Pours a clear dark copper with a beige head and some little lacing. Aroma of grapefruits, spices from the rye. Taste is spicy, grapefruits, light caramel, good bitterness. Medium body and medium carbonation. Really enjoyed this one.
