COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Northern California’s brewing history, this California Bitter is as inviting as the Redwoods. Smooth and drinkable, this ale has a well rounded malt character accented by Cascade and Centennial Dry Hops.

Draft at Peaches in Yellow Springs. Rosy reddish copper with a nicely active head. Big sweet floral aroma. Drinks with a sweet floral kick, and a bitter twist. Good. (#3915, 5/29/2010)

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2010 Location: Tap at Blind Tiger, 5/9/10

Aroma: Resiny/citrus hops and caramel on the nose
Appearance: Clear caramel-orange color with a thin, lasting white head
Flavor: Taste is fairly hoppy with a nice malt presence as well
Palate: The body is light-medium with average (plus) carbonation
Overall Impression: This beer is solid. I like it, a nice, flavorful beer. I’m pretty sure I’ve tried this one before, but I had never rated it prior to yesterday’s sampling.

On draught. Copper pour with a thin off white head. Aroma of bitter hops and pepper. Medium body. Taste of hops and faint malt with a hoppy bitter finish.

Tap @ Migration... Poured amber/red with a white head. Floral nose with hops and a subtle grain bill. Soft palate, easy drinking with sweet malts, caramel, butterscotch and still a good kick of hops.

On draft at Bear Republic (Healdsburg, CA): Pours a rich, clear golden copper color and topped with thin white lacing. Moderate hops (resin, pine, floral) in the aroma, along with rye, toasted seven-grain bready malts, pale malts, and molasses. Tastes of bitter hops, resin, caramel malt, and some light fruit tones.. Somewhat metallic which definitely throws off the balance a bit. Drinkabillity: Fresh, simple, drinkable. Pairing: Roast chicken or pork, curry. Rebuy: Yes. #361 on 31032010, DG.

On tap at Pap. Hazy gold pour with thin foam on top. Sweet malt, a touch of yeast and some light hops. Refreshing, but nothing too exciting.

On tap at Vintage. Pours a darkish amber with a little bit of head and aromas that can best be described as soapy with a little bit of grass and citrus. Flavor is pretty soapy and comes across to me as watery with a grassy and grapefruity finish. The hops is a little underdone for my liking, but it’s solid enough.

On tap at the Other Side Cafe, Boston, 15 October 2009. Copper colour. Described as a bitter but more of an American feel than English. Good grassy hops throughout. Some clean malt, with a nutty touch. Nice balance and very drinkable. One of those beers that doesn’t scream out at you but hits the spot just right.

Tap @ SD Taproom. Pours a lightly hazed copper color with a frothy off white head leaving some nice lacing. Nice hoppy nose with citrus peel, resin, and cereal grain. Flavor was also quite hoppy with a medium bitter finsh. A greatt ESB.

Samples on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark golden amber/copper color with golden orange hues when held to a light source and a creamy one finger head that slowly settles into a lasting ring that coats the glass with sheets of lacing. Slightly roasted malt aroma with some earthy hops. There’s also some biscuit, toffee, nut and smoke in the nose. Lighter end of medium body and slightly watered don some subtle toastiness in the malt profile. Hints of caramel, biscuit and toffee along with some nice dry piney and citrus hop notes. Hints of lemon peel and grape fruit. None of the flavors in this beer are "big" rather it is a well balanced drinkable session beer. Pretty fever but nothing spectacular.
