Nice ruby amber color, very little carbonation. Earthy taste with some hops in the background but that dirt/earth taste is upfront. Coffee aftertaste.

On tap at the brewpub on 6/29/09. Dark yellow, touch of orange. Very hoppy nice aroma, exactly what I would’ve expected. Nothing too complex, but just a nice lingering bitter finish. This is just what I wanted from the style and Bear Republic delivered.

draft at Public house. Pours a dark yellowy copper color with a small, miniscule white head. Nose is light hops with a fairly dominant sweet malt note. Palate is full as all bear rep’s are. Flavors of dry hops with some sugary sweetness and a light caramel malt note.

Tap at Pacific Standard; they didn’t label it "California Style," so imagine my surprise when I ended up with a rather hoppy beer that was supposed to be a bitter. Hmm. Biscuit and wet towel aroma, with a crisp, wet, earthy, and surprisingly hoppy flavor. Rough body, bitter, kind of dull and harsh. Not a fan.

Tap at ACBF. Aroma of caramel apple, floral hops. Flavor has the flowers along with spice and citrus on a crisp, cracker malt. Delicate, nuanced, tasty.

Pours burnt orange. Aroma is fairly mellow with caramel and a mixture of earthy and citrusy hops. Tastes of caramel, earthy hops and dirt. Big hops in the finish with an ashy aftertaste. Medium-light bodied. Just too hoppy in a beer where it doesn’t belong. Not EVERYTHING should be an IPA.
