From tap at Toronado, Barley Wine Fest 2010. Pours hazy dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is solid overripe fruity and wooden. Dry malty accent. Fruity and light estery. Cherry like in flavour. Dry hoppy and fruity into the finish.

Pours amber with big, thick head that doesn’t stick around too long. It is very nicely balanced, with flavors of sweet caramel, resinous citrus hops, fruity esters, and a balancing bitterness. Very little alcohol presence. Nice and smooth for such a big beer.

Aromas of pineapple, caramel, black pepper. Bright amber with lasting khaki head. a little flat and light in the mouth. Very grapefruit flavor, bordering on harsh, a little malt behind it, alcohol. bitter finish.

Tap @ Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest 2009. Pours a cloudy deep reddish amber with a small beige ring. Nose holds some candied tree fruits, caramel and toffee. Flavor starts sweet with fruits and finishes slightly bitter and boozy.

Pours a burnt orange color. aroma of grapes, toffee, and caramel. Big caramel, bitter pine, and brown sugar in the flavor. Finishes with grapefruit and char. I had hopes for this, but it suffers from a complete lack of finesse, though no one thing was really bad about it.

On tap @ The Ginger Man, NYC:
Deep hazy amber, small-ish head. Sweet raisin and hop aroma. More sweet raisins in the flavour followed by a long hops and alcohol bitterness.

Hazy red/brown and creamy. Caramel/toffee hints of fruit (deep and darkish) Quite toasty and savoury though. Very big booziness with kicks of liquorice very rich treacly flavours. Amazing burnt sugar finish. Still. A great snifter.

Not a very good BW. Clashing sweetness and bitterness - they don’t synergize and make for a good beer. Brown with not much head. Not much in the nose. Sweetness is cloying, the bitterness, obnoxious and offensive.

Draft at Blind Tiger. Poured a hazy dark orange/brown color. The head was sticky, off white, and left some lace behind. Rich aromas of raisin, molasses, fig, and caramel. There was also a whiff of steeping malted barley. Medium to full bodied with moderate bitterness and plenty of alcohol warmth and flavor. Fairly sweet with fig and dark caramel notes. The sugars were tempered somewhat by earthy black tea and bitter citrus rind. Solid barley wine.
