Pours amber with a foamy white head. Smells of citrus and wildflowers. Some perfume and caramel also emerge as the beer warms. Taste is bitter with mandarin orange undertones. Finishes citrussy and peppery.

Good stuff but early on in the flavor its a bit too sweet and there is a bit grainy alcohol burn that makes it seem uneven. Not in same league as this brewer’s rye ipa or stout.

Draft at Downtown Johnny Browns. Poured hazy amber with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Heavy bitter flavor with a medium smooth bitter finish of long duration. A standout beer.

Bomber bottle. Strong bitter hop smell upon opening, like it may be dry-hopped. Coppery IPA pour with a bubbly thick head that settles into a rocky landscape. Taste is strong on PNW hop bitterness that curls up in my mouth. Light on hop aromatics, mostly pine, I think. Solid malt profile with the occasional odd thread of saccharine. Of course I’ve had much hoppier than this, but it undeniably has its own style.

Draft. Not too much aroma. Nice smooth mouthfeel, with a good blend of hop and malt flavors. Similar to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but without the yeasty aftertaste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours light to medium clear amber body with a medium white head. Mostly diminishing with good lacing. Very strong hopp y aroma with hints of flowers and sweet hops. Initially harsh bitter and moves into a moderately bitter taste for an average duration. Medium body and lively carbonation with a watery texture.
Reviewer’s notes: "The Racer 5 IPA rivals the He rcules Double IPA in taste and quality. Hoppy as hell and right up your alley - Amber. For a non-specialty IPA, this is second o nly to the Smuttynose IPA- Ian. Over the top."

Bomber. Smells of sharp hops, but fainter than I thought. Light amber color with high carbonation. Taste of perfection. Just right hop taste is followed by small scrubbing bubbles that wisk away aftertaste and scuzzy palate. Well done!

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2011 22oz bomber. Gorgeous IPA. Thick but drinkable, intense citrus hops with some malt. Lustrous amber with a massive fluffy head. Compared to some of the other hop bombs out there, this is simply a well balanced, quite floral drink. Really fine.
