UPDATED: NOV 18, 2007 Re rate - all of the same still applies, but since itís being produced in larger quantities, the quality is not consistent. A nice citrus/mango aroma. Deep copper color, made me think of dark orange leaves in fall. Hoppy and bitter flavor, but just enough unfermented crystal malt sweetness to balance it out. Even a bit of malt flavor in there, which was a pleasant surprise, those nuances tend to get stomped on by hops in this style. Thanks to Kristin at Toronado in San Francisco for originally introducing me to this one.

Medium white head, lacing, atop a copper colored brew. Hoppy/citrus nose and flavor, some malts, lightly bitter pleasant finish

This was an excellent IPA. It poured a thick head that stayed the duration and offered an enticing scent. It was quite astringent and hoppy, as well as being citrusy and woody. It was quite dry and bitter, with the hop residue at the bottom of the bottle offering an extra kick.

Pours a small beaded offwhite head that is long lived and leaves behind plenty of lace. Clear, copper/orange colored brew. Large, flowery, citrusy nose, very nice! Medium body, lightly resiny. Great hop flavor, citrus, pine. Fruity with a solid lightly sweet maltiness, lightly toasty and caramelly. Finish is dry, largely hoppy, fruity and stings. @ 7%, a real AIPA baby! Bottle conditioned! I love it. At $3.99 a bomber a true deal! Bear Republic rocks!

Overall Iím pretty impressed with this beer. It has a wonderful hop nose, beautiful color, hazy only because itís bottle conditioned and pretty decent balance. Not over the top with the hops.

Excellent aroma, body and flavor. This IPA is built around hops. Fresh hop nose. citrus hop flavor and underlying malt sweetness. Iíve seen this beer on draft throughout Northern California but never took the time to sample it. Picked up a 22 ounce bomber at State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD for $4.19 USD. Now Iím regretting the missed opportunities the past two years I had to sample this excellent IPA. Donít be like me, if you enjoy IPAís seek Racer 5 out.

Pours a cloudy amber with patches of foam floating about. Aroma is mostly sweet and malty, with only a hint of alcohol. Palate is somewhat watery, but the flavor is classic IPA. A boatload of hops right up front, tangy citrus and sticky pine, with a full maltiness balancing it out. The finish is bitter and sweet, with a sticky dryness. Superb!

honestly, i wasnít that impressed, but I am not a fan of too many IPAs. Maybe I just havenít had enough of them... Taste was very hoppy, and aroma was pretty piney. I feel bad for not liking it better, maybe i will re-rate after getting to sample some more IPAs and getting used to the flava.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2004 22 oz. botlled on 10-27-04.Aroma is of the heady pine-citrus nature(as noted) a tad of sweet for balance.Hazy orange gold, nice fluffy white head, nice lace, some yeasties.I love the flavor, not over the top(easy bitterness and overall hoppiness) and I think I am enjoying this more than a Stone IPA.Palate is pretty easy, could use more depth(but it is quite silky and lovely, just would like another 10 IBUís),seems like this should be their all year IPA but twas quite the treat to find a couple cases of this at work today.Fresh, yummy,Iím hooked but whats new? I am happy4these hops as well. This is pretty much what Iíve been looking for in an IPA these days.Slurp! Six packs all year please?
