Poured a hazy golden amber with an off white head. Aroma of piney hops and caramel malt. Flavors of malt with pine running through out. Light bitter finish. Light to medium body. Nice balance and refreshing.

22oz bomber obtained in a trade with Bluedevil0206 - Thanks James! - Pours golden with a big offwhite rocky head that laces all the way down the glass some particles float a little and drop this down to a 4 appearance but it is gorgeous other than that. Aroma is sweet citrus orange, tangerine, grapefruit. Flavor is a fine blend of citrus hops and caramel sweet malts entwined making this quite a balanced medium bodied brew. I really liked this. It had just enough hops and balanced beautifully with the malts. For an IPA this was quite powerful enough. A very nice beer

This is the type of IPA I like- more malty and fuller bodied - the head on this was best described as "mountainous." The gripe I have about Racer 5 is that while it looks really good, it tastes tame for an IPA- especially because I wouldn’t immediately describe it as hoppy. I still like it more than most beers, and more than most IPAs, but as a hophead I kept wanting more bitterness and hop aroma.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2005 Nice bite, nice aroma, but just to malty to be a good IPA in my taste. SOme will find this beer balanced, but I like some agression in my IPA’s.

Bomber. Pours a deep orange color with a huge white foamy head. Nose is an amazingly abundant amount of hopps that seems to be almost perfect. Nice grassy, earthy tones with some citrus. Flavor is phenominal. Great bitterness with grassy hopps, fresh citrus and floral notes.

On tap poured a cleargolden with an offwhite head. Earthy, grassy aroma. Flavor is mostly hops. Earthy and grassy with some carmel undertones.

Clear orangey-amber pour with a very tall rocky white head. Big floral and citrus aroma, with grapefruit and grass noted. Also some sweet malts in there. Very hoppy on the palate, with some citrus and caramel malts as well. Medium hoppy/bitter finish. Very well-balanced, all the way through. If you dig the west coast hops, this one’s for you.

Orangeish amber body under a pure white head. Delicious smell of grapefruit hops and some sweet amber malt. Flavor is heavily hops, initially. Very citrussy, with some grass, but no notes of pine. Sweet malt backbone; not much yeast flavor. Very smooth. I don’t understand why this isn’t rated higher.

This copper-colored strong ale poured with a short white head, eliciting a noticeable flowery aroma. The flavor is of hops and more hops, but there is a very pleasant bitterness.

thanks to firemoose15 for sharing, reddish highlights in a caramel colored body topped with a layer of long lasting white head, giving off a sweet grassy/floroal aroma. flavor is progressive, starting with grassy/pine hop flavors, moving into some caramel malts, and finally ending with a grapefruit/citrus hop tone. not too bitter for the aftertaste, but it did have an almost slick/oily feeling to it, along with a strong floral hop tail on the palate. i would put this in the mild or mainstream ipa category
