12oz bottle. Rich golden colour, decent head. The aroma is pure citrussy, dank hops, period. On the palate this IPA is surprisingly well-balanced, which is really what sets it apart from other examples for me - huge hop aroma but none of that abrasive bitterness and no ridiculously sweet caramel for fake balance either. Super drinkable stuff.

Aroma is outstanding. Grapefruit and tangerine zest, slight pine needles and some malt sweetness, but the hops still get to be the star. Hazy light orange color with a snow white fluffy head that lingers for a long time and leaves a lot of lacing. The taste hits you with a surprising amount of sweetness, but that only lasts for a moment. After that, you get a sharp rush of pine and citrus hop bitterness that fades away just in time for you to take another sip. Very refreshing and very well done. Great full palate; one of the only IPAs I have had that coats the mouth. Excellent IPA. How could anyone not like this beer?

Pours a nice thick head with a malty nose. Great body body with a hoppy malt finish. A great brew! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear light Amber with a finger of creamy white head. Aroma is sweet and pungent starburst citrus. Flavor is clean and crisp but slightly muted, which is definitely not a bad thing. There is a lot of complexity packed into a very quick punch that simply invites the drinker to keep drinking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Copper color with small stable white head. Grapefruity, resinous, classic West Coast IPA. Soft carbonation. A good one, but around here, the IPAs just blend together - everything is good!

Can’t believe I haven’t rated this before now... been a perennial favourite for years - perfectly balanced sweet malt v. fruity/herbal hops - lovely bitter finish - ridiculously easy to smash - used to think 7.5% was high octane but now it’s the new normal... sheer drinking pleasure. Oh yeah...

35 cl bottle from a retailer in Manhattan, NY. Orange color, hazed, fizzy, thick white head. Big citrus & hops nose. Aroma: thick pale malts, bready, woody tones. Loads of american hops, citrus, cannabis, ginger, leaves. Hops dominates the finish where intense bitterness dries the mouth, with a remainder of dark chocolate. Taste is happily bouncy, soft in the beginning and heavily bitter in the finish. Spicy hops dry finish. BIG hoppy west coast IPA, this one wins the race.

355ml bottle (7% abv) at home, present from Stuartyboy - sweet citrus aroma, clear amber, many streams of micro bubbles, thin off-white head, intermittent lacing, orange and grapefruit, oily with a strong hop finish

Tap in a pint glass at Sushi Deli 2 in San Diego with commonshawn, rosskyle, and wildcard. Aroma gives a super fresh vibe with bright citrus tones. Good lacing. Taste has the same refreshing qualities...light grapefruit and orange. Nice hop balance with sweetness. Feels like an easy to drink readily available go to option. Solid beer.

I don’t do a lot of rating here. My favorite beers number 1: Grapefruit Sculpin, number 2 Two-Hearted Ale, and number 3 Racer 5. After over 6 years of random-but-heavy-yet-insightful chugging of high quality beers - due to my employment in the alcohol industry - I have come to the conclusion that these three encompass everything I like about IPAs. Tonight’s encounter with Racer 5 confirmed again what a wonderfully balanced, floral and yet full-bodied beer it is. The aroma and taste characteristics are so evident, even after having a GS or two beforehand. If you like the more well-balanced and not heavy-handed IPA seek out Racer 5. (Bear Republic’s other, darker beers are also epic, just not my style).
