Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. Clear, very light, amber, almost yellow color. Prominent head with adequate lacing. Nose is decidedly hoppy, nice balance of citrus and pine. Palate is easy and inocuous, not too heavy, not too light. Lovely, soft texture, Super easy-drinking IPA, none of the bite or tang that define so many. Tidge of sweet, nice!

Bottle. Pours a medium to pale amber, with a thick, frothy, marshmallowy white head, suggestions of green, phenomenal lacing, perhaps one of the most gorgeous beers I’ve sen so far. Nose is pine and citrus, grapefruit and orange rind, pretty, mildly floral, lovely. Palate is more of the same, al of the pine/spruce shades, as well as every description of citrus, and the flowers translate over as well. Could be ever so slightly maltier, but his is really my only complaint. Gorgeous, wondrous nectar.

Tap: Pours orange color with what was probably a nice head, but my beer failed to retain by the time I returned from the bathroom. Citrus and hops are all over the aroma. Rather strong hopping, but not way over the top. Well-balanced overall. Don’t know if this is one of the best IPAs ever, but it certainly did not disappoint me, as this brewery has never done.

Aroma is full of piney hops, with oily nail polish-like alcohol aroma, and some strong citrus. The beer is a medium, mostly clean medium golden color, with a thin collared ring head, which is whited in color. The beer leaves a nice bit of lacing. The flavor contains nicely balanced strong hops and malt bodies, some alcohol, and a little strong citrus, likely grapefruit. The beer also has a decent amount of oilyness as well. Racer also has a nice fullmouth feel with initial sting of hops effervescencen, middle body feel is the malts, and finishing with a hoppy lingering ending.

Bottle from Jessup plaza. Poured a nice orangeish color with a nice white head. Aroma is tons of grapefruit hops and some mild sweetness. Taste is sweet up front but then dominated by hops through out the rest of the drink. This one is nice.

Bottle. Pours clear orange with thin white head, heavy lace left behind. Pine, flowers, and hops in the nose, very mellow and balanced. Seems to go from sweet, to bitter, back to sweet flavor. Caramel, hops, sweet malt, a touch of candy sugar taste. Very crisp and dry, well balanced and smoother than I would expect an IPA of the abv. Solid.
