Love it! another must on draft, but still tasty poured from the bottle. Probably my favorite beer so far

Poured from a bottle. Have had this on draft some years ago and I don?t recall it having such a sweet finish. Pleasantly bitter, but brewery needs to address the overpreponderance of a treacly malt, over-sweet finish.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2014 What happened to the old "Circa 2009" RACER 5 IPA? The wonderful RACER 5 that won gold in the Great American Beer Festival? Pop ,pour WTF! no golden color, or nice lacing, just a thin yellow color liquid that smells like the green Christmas tree air freshener from the car wash. There is also a noticeably large number of debris chunks floating at the bottom of the bottle as well as a large amount of yeast swirling around. Hum? This isn’t right. One taste confirms this is not the same circa 2009 Racer 5, instead a slam you in the face Pine overload with a heavy bitter yeast finish. There are noticeable bitter citrus flavors and some floral notes but the pine overload is just way to strong. Aggressive as the brewery suggests is one thing, stomach belching Pine like the Jack Links Beef Jerky Sasquatch was allowed to participate in the brewing process adding Pine tree, resin loaded cones, bark and roots is another. So what happened? Strongly hopped IPA’s under 8% ABV are often fragile hence the bottles have been bottle conditioned with extra yeast claimed by the brewery as yeast is a good thing. Nice sales pitch to try and sell what is obviously a fragile ale that needs bottle conditioning to survive distribution but does not work. From the brewery itself, still quite piney but manageable. From a distributed bottle" HELL NO" this is just over hype riding off the former success to sell as one of the most expensive six packs available for a IPA. Not a imperial(Double IPA) or triple , but perhaps an experiment gone wrong trying to duplicate Stone,Russian River or Dogfish head IPA intensity by choosing massive hops like the Green Flash Green Bullet hops used in triple IPA. or just way to many Chinook,Cascade,Columbus, and Centennial hops way out of balance for anyone except for a Sasquatch. The West Coast IPA brewery battles sure did not help bring out the best here ,which his a shame. The OLD RACER 5 sadly has crashed and burned. Bear Republic makes a very nice Black bear Stout in the 8%ABV range like a thinner Russian imperial however after samples from various locations including the brewery itself Pass on the Racer 5 just to intense with the pine for most. Check this out. Hosted a catering event with several ales on tap as well as about 200 bottles of ale of which 36 were RACER 5 IPA. 4 hours into the event mostly everything is consumed except there is still 33 of the original 36 bottles of RACER 5 IPA left. One of the bottles was sipped and tossed in the trash full. A guest had brought 2 cases of Trader Joes Fat Weasel which is then distributed and the remaining RACER 5 sits untouched. No one even wants to take it home!! I think this sums it up pretty clear!

This west coast IPA has a bit of a softer side. Piney, light citrus hops, light amber body with soft head, some lacing. Taste is more citrus than pine, easy on the palate, smooth, sweet and delicious. Not as "in your face" as so mmany other left coast IPAs.

pours with a generous thick foam cap that is dense and lingers through session. A nice golden orange color that is clear. Citrus and pine resin can be scented in this hoppy brew. Hoppy, yes, with citrus and pine coming through with some malt character for balance. This is a full body beer with a slightly dry or bitter ending.

One of the better west coast IPA in my opinion. Has something not quite seen in west coast and that is balance. Hops are strong but well balanced malt backbone keeps it from being one sided. Got this one fresh as was less than 10 days old on bottle stamp. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Licht troebel, licht amberkleurig. Niet al te veel aroma, wat mango en lychee. Meer smaak, fruitige hop, maar dat sneeuwt een beetje onder door iets van peper en paprika. Lekker, maar het er net iets meer van verwacht, ook gezien de 7,5% alcohol.
