Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. Crystal clear amber color with a one finger off white head that leaves some cool lacing. Light carbonation visible. Hops also dominate the flavor with very little sweetness to balance. The hops are predominately floral with some peppery spice that gives a sharp edge to the beer. It is also brings a big bitterness that grows as the beer warms. I wasn’t "sold" by aroma or appearance. But after tasting it I definitely was! This beer is amazingly well crafted. In so many ways it epitomizes what craft beer is all about.

Didn’t have that very bright orange appearance I was hoping for, but it did have a nice fluffy head. Haze light orange in color. Slight corn flavor?! Maybe I am a little off because I just had an imperial/double IPA. Leaves some good lacing. Nice hop aroma. Very pungent. Pungent pine hop aromal. Hops are nice, especially the bittering hop. Not so much of a malt presence, which affects the texture. Actually a very good IPA. Very pleasant beer. Maybe not as good as the Hop Rod Rye, but a close second.

Pours a deep copper that plays off the light with a fluffy white head. Big sweet aroma of hops with some malt. Good flavor of hops with a slightly malty backbone. Some floral and pine. Sweet and bitter bite. Alcohol is slightly noticeable. I liked this IPA but it was just overall a little off for me, but still good.

On tap at thrashzone. Nice IPA. Good first impression. Fruity initial nose and flavor. Then got a peppery mouthfeel. I get pepper and sweet malts. Plus lots of hops in the nose and hop bitterness in the flavor. Still, can’t escape that pepper. Nice beer. Had an Apex DIPA before this, so my taste buds may still be numb. I preferred this on bottle. Still, poured very well here at Thrashzone, Yokohama, Japan. As it warms, it gets better. A very nice American IPA. More mellow than a west coast or ruination bit still full of hops. Good beer.

Bottle. Nice honey and hop aroma. Pours a clear copper with light lacing and very little head. Nice, soft biscuity taste immediately before the hops bite in and linger pleasantly. Good mouthfeel without much carbonation. Very good.

Aroma is citrus hops and some alcohol, the combination of which creates added aromas of cherry and honey. Taste is caramel, citrus hops, a touch of alcohol. Nice bite in the back of the tongue, with a long, bittersweet finish. Carbonation is lower than expected for an IPA - a good thing in my opinion. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

Draft at MacGregor’s. Very nice appearance, dark golden, thick white head and lacing. Intense aroma of grapefruit and some pine. Some nice maltiness in the palate to go along with all the hops. Several at our table tried this, all liked it.
