Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. [Bottle] Pours hazy dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma has floral sweetness with an unusual melon aroma mixed in and also some strawberry jam--reminds me of aromas that I encounter more often in young barley wines than in IPAs. A little lemon zest showed up in there as well after a bit. Taste is decent, but a little strange. Not overly bitter, but there is a fair amount of grapefruit rind on the swallow. Other than that, there is a hefty maltiness and some other citrus. Good mouthfeel with a long finish. Quite smooth and very drinkable. A decent IPA, but didn’t overly impress.

Not a bad IPA but quite hoppy. Has definite strength to it, more so than several other beers of it’s kind.

I’ve had this beer on tap and in a bottle, so I I’ve experienced it in more ways than one. It’s definitely one of my favorite beers! I love enjoying it when I’m either at a bar, my home, watching a game, or enjoying some fantastic hot wings. The bitterness of hops creates a light citrus flavor that I find myself keeping coming back to.

Bottle at Joshs. For an IPA what a really great head that holds and great lacing. Nice balance of fragrant and bitter hops. finishes well.

pours with a tremendous amount of lacing, and thick at that. the aromas are amazing with light peach, heavy orange/citrus, and copious amounts of alpha and beta hoppage. the taste is intense - hops through the wazoo, piney, citrus-filled, and delightful orange peel. it’s soft on the palate, but pleasantly bitter yest smooth. kick ass - thanks mike!

Pours a light bronze color with a minimal off white head. Great hoppy aroma, pine and lemon, with some caramel sweetness. Wonderful, clean balanced flavor, big on the pine/resiny hops, but well balanced by the sweet malts. Medium/full body with a nice stickiness on the tongue and lips. Although it is a pretty big beer at 7%, I could easily see myself enjoying a couple of these in one sitting.

Have enjoyed this fine IPA many times, and only now decided to rate. On tap as special pour of the day at John’s Buffet, Winfield, IL. Clear and a golden/amber was the color, with an average, off white head that lasted, and showed some good lacing. The aroma is mainly sweet orange and other citrus. A little resin made up a secondary note in the nose. These, and some nice, supportive malt made up the flavor. A strong, favorable and lingering hop bitterness was also very obvious.

Almost no aroma! Wow. Once you get into this beer with your mouth ... the hops finally make an appearance. very bitter in the taste, But, the beer finishes clean. Great combo. Just wish for more hop aroma!
