Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. This was my first big west coast hoppy beer that I loved. Flowery hoppy aroma with a lemon tinge. Nice hazy golden amber. Classic hoppy bitter beer but not the whole package. Something in the aftertaste that does not draw me in. Good but not great.

Aroma clean lemony flowers, great body for s great IPA, medium head, pine throaty after taste... Great beer, refreshing given the amount of volume and weight on the middle tongue.

Bottle courtesy of screach. Pours a hazy yellow-caramel color with a one finger white fizzy head that settles slowly. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of sweet malt, caramel, grapefruit, pine, spice, Flavor is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, floral hops, honey, caramel, some maltiness. Generally light to medium body with a pleasing floral hops finish.

Who sent me this bottle? Mar? i don’t remember, but I am glad I got to try it. Not bad. An apricot color with a white head. The hops hit your nose with some resin and citrus and keep hitting you all the way through the sipping. Has just enough malt to make this a beer worth having another. Good.

Had on tap at Rattle n Hum in nyc. Pours what looked to be on the light side with orange yellowish hint. I dont like the style, but this was an exception. Very good IPA, spice/pine flavors not overpowering, great lace work. nice balanced. recommended.

Bottle from Bev Mo, very hoppy beer. Can taste it throughout the entire beer. Cloudy orange slight brown color, decent beer if you want a full hoppy type of beer.

From a 12 oz bottle this awesome IPA pours an orange color with a decent white head. Smell of hops (and more hops) and pine, floral and grapefruit. Nice taste of citrus hops, caramel malt and a sweet sugary follow-up. Decent carbonation - not too much. ABV is a litle high for a session beer (7%) and some attention is required to drink this one - but I could see myself knocking a few of these back without any problem. Nice, nice brew..... A little pricey for everyday drinking but Racer 5 will find a steady home in my beer fridge for when I want something a cut above the others.

From a 22. oz bomber. Excellent brew. Has an extremely hoppy aroma, and pours a murky orange-brown. Flavor was really hoppy, but pretty refreshing at the same time. A fantastic beer, I’ll definitely have to buy again.
