Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Has a malty hoppy pine needles aroma with some hints of citrus. Sweetish malty bitter hoppy piney citrus grassy flavor. Has a malty bitter hoppy piney finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

Pours a clear golden-orange color with a head greater than one inch which is very frothy and white. Aroma is very strong of bitter Columbus hops and very light notes of citrus but barely detectable. The beer has a very smooth flavor containing a great citrus and grass hops flavor which meshes well with the light sweet malty flavor. The beer leaves an awesome lacing on the glass and has great carbonation which really brings the aroma to the nose. After the flavor has been lingering in your mouth after a sip, it starts to taste a bit salty. Overall a fantastic IPA for the price and a very well balanced beer.

Pours a slightly hazy orange witha 1 finger creamy eggshell head that has good retention. Aroma is caramel and toasty malts, floral hops and citrus hops that smell alot like a freshly peeled mandarin orange. Flavor is toffee, then caramel and toast Saltine cracker comes in soon after with a little straw note and big citrus hops, some of the orange notes come through but much less pronounced than the aroma. Finish is grainy and citrusy, fairly bitter but it seems lower than 69 IBU. Palate is medium to thin and creamy, feels heavier than it really is, not bad but I like a little more bite.

A very tasty IPA. Nice balance of hops and smooth overall spice. Enjoyed from the bottle at a Sushi joint in Old Town San Diego.

Appearance: Clear; good retention on an off-white frothy head; good color--golden reddish orange Aroma: subtle malt in the background via white bread, slightly cookie-ish quality; hops are represented in a very floral, perfume, herb quality; possibly some light, white fruit providing a supporting role; however, also does have an apple cider-like quality which loses it points Flavor: Pretty good balance; the malt definitely makes its presence known; less fault on the tongue compared to on the nose; basically a sound IPA flavor but nothing spectacular; second tasting brings too much apple cider Palate: Probably the best part of the beer; perfect IPA texture; smooth and suave with nothing to astringent

Growler filled at Bellport Beer and Cold Soda. Pours a slightly hazed golden orange with a thin-moderate linen white head that fades to a film at mid-glass which lingers to the end, leaving very nice lace all the way to the bottom of the glass. Pleasant aroma of grapefruit and pine. I was very happy that the flavor is actually fruitier and more flavorful than the aroma suggests with lots of grapefruit. The malt base is sufficient to support the hops. Bitter at the finish but not excessive and again, is more about the grapefruit fruit flavor. I’m glad I have a full growler, I’ll be enjoying this one throughout the day!
