ZazuH (42), Brentwood, California, USA Sep 22, 2008 22 oz bottle - nice rich orange w/ frothy white head. Citrus and lemongrass w/ a hint of copper in the nose. Medium bodied w/ slight stickiness, but no real malt balance. Rather harsh, bitter snap. Finish was a little musty (wet hay). Not a great impression overall. LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Sep 19, 2008 Updated: Jul 14, 2009Big bright orangish yellow with a sudsy, white head. Aromas of citrus, caramel, and some evergreen. Flavors of citrus and resinous hops and sweet malts. Highly drinkable, but might creep up on you in a session. It’s so good, you will want to polish off a six pack of it. dogfish120love (250), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Sep 18, 2008 Not nearly as hoppy as the comercial description. as usual in an IPA pours orange in color, citrus/ grapefruit, hops sweet and definetly drinkable. Another great beer from bear republic, just enough to break it from the norm of a sea of IPA’s at the liquor store. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Sep 18, 2008 On tap at 99 Bottles in Santa Cruz. Poured into a pint glass. Light clear amber color with a tan head that recedes to a ring leaving some wispy lacing. Aroma is pretty much just citrus and pine. Hops galore. Flavor is piny with some neutral malt. Clean and herbal, high bitterness with no astringency. Nice prickly mouthfeel, crisp and dry. A solid drinkable IPA.
craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Sep 16, 2008 pours an orange copper with small head and notable yeast sediment. citrusy aroma with hops, lemon, and orange rind. Flavor is very nice, with a strong hit deep on the palate followed by a beautiful hop finish. Palate is very good overall, really well crafted IPA. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 15, 2008 On tap at the flying saucer in KC. Pours a hazy straight orange with a pretty looking two finger width head. An absolutely beautiful lacing that sticks to the glass throughout the session. Awesome appearance. Lots of floral and citrus hops in the aroma. Some maltiness resembling more of a caramel malt than a pale malt. Some candy sugar smell in there along with the grapefruit. Flavor was a strong orange and citrusy hop balanced extremely well with the sweet malt. A very wet and oily feel to it which was a little weird for such a bitter beer, but very enjoyable. Medium bodied and finishes sweet and bitter at the same time. The bitterness is present from beginning to end, but again, a nice balance throughout. Lots of pine and flowery notes throughout as well. Overall, a fantastic beer with a lot of citrus and floral hop flavor that has a pretty damn good amount of sweet malts to balance it out. Lots of flavor and deserving of higher rating. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 15, 2008 Bottle from Canals and the winner is ME. This Orangey citrus hoppy and sweet balanced IPA made my night. It finishes is so smooth. BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Sep 13, 2008 On draft at O’Brien’s. Appearance is a clear orange hue, thin white bubbly head dissipates, good lacing on the glass.
Smell is hops, a nice mix of pine-floral-citrus, backbone of sweet pale/caramel malts, some bubblegum/cotton candy.
Taste is oily pine/citrus hops with a sugary sweet follow-up, finishes sweet and prickly.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, slick and oily texture coats the mouth, moderately high carbonation.
This is a nicely sweetened IPA with strong hop presence, the alcohol is lurking at 7% but this is could be an all-night drinker.
