Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. On draft at O’Brien’s. Appearance is a clear orange hue, thin white bubbly head dissipates, good lacing on the glass. Smell is hops, a nice mix of pine-floral-citrus, backbone of sweet pale/caramel malts, some bubblegum/cotton candy. Taste is oily pine/citrus hops with a sugary sweet follow-up, finishes sweet and prickly. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, slick and oily texture coats the mouth, moderately high carbonation. This is a nicely sweetened IPA with strong hop presence, the alcohol is lurking at 7% but this is could be an all-night drinker.

Pours a hazy gold. An offwhite head with decent lacing. Smells of hops and mild fruits. Had a very significant pine flavor which resulted in a not so unpleasant bitter after taste. Overall a well crafted beer.

Poured a nice golden amber color with medium head. Aroma is very nice, fresh hops and citrus. Tasted pine, grapefruit and finished bitter. I think Bear Republic over did it with the hops and did not balance the beer with proper malt. Not a bad brew but too much pine taste.

Amber with a small off white head. Hops and spice on the nose. Nice hop bite. Good stuff.
